Minworth Club and Lodge

Stayed with a group of friends while attending a convention over at the NEC.

You get what you pay for with this place, cheap basic lodgings. Everything was at least clean and the TV was modern but the room wasn't in the best state of repair, the shower also gave off the slight smell of wet plaster meaning that there is creeping water issue. Staff where friendly, but not great. They messed up our breakfast order on one morning, and even though I requested room service (and was told that they had a general access key) our room wasn't serviced as in at all. Granted my group wasn't the most tidy, but at least we could have had the towels changed, tea tray restocked and floor vacuumed, which was all I asked. Checking in wasn't great either. I have NO idea why the lodge demanded that we booked in at the bar. Yes they warn that on Friday nights it can get noisy, but still I could hardly hear myself think over a loud karaoke evening, and it was fairly intimidating having to muscle my way past stocky half drunk locals. This was made all the more aggravating by knowing at the other side was the empty and quiet lounge, that was by far more pleasant to be in or do business. On the upside breakfast was good (and took requests), the beds comfy, there is another pub near by (for those that don't like the work men's club style bar) and an ASDA round the corner. The NEC was a fairly direct 10min drive as well. Would stay again, if I need NEC lodgings but I would highly advise checking in morning or evening time and not on a Friday night.
