Sheltered accommodation posing as a hotel
Booked accommodation for one night as myself and teenage son wanted to go skiing.
I chose this hotel as the pics looked inviting plus they accepted pets. On laterooms this was one of the few hotels that asked for payment upfront. The day of travel I received an email from the hotel telling me there would be an extra charge of £50 for the dog for the night, plus check-in wasn't until after 4pm.
When we got to the hotel, I was told at check-in that there would be a charge for the electricity we used. I was astounded as I have never had this in all the years and various types of accommodation I have stayed in. The accommodation wasn't a hotel room as I expected but an apartment belonging to someone that the hotel used. I was very similar to old folk assisted living, was dated, worn and not overly clean. The bed sheets were crinkled when pulled back, no shower gel, no conditioner, no tea/coffee or sugar.
The heating was electric heaters, which were had to pay for (this is February and snowing). We were provided with a snow shovel which we had to use to get our car out of the drive way - that's right the hotel didn't keep these clear for you. Disgusted with this accommodation, I have previously viewed MacDonald hotels as offering quality, but have completely changed my mind with this experience. Would never go back out recommend to anyone.
Macdonald Spey Valley Golf & Country Club
Stayed in a Spey for 2 nights - clean enough but they should wash curtains and cushions as they were disgusting, also sofa bed very uncomfortable-couldn't sleep at all as I have back problems-wouldn't recommend it.
Staff - what can I say-very unhelpful and that's being polite.
