Four Seasons Hotel

I have stayed at the Four Seasons previously and have never been extremely impressed - but the hotel is centrally located in the town and is really handy for the beach.

I booked a superior room for £120 for the night (including breakfast)

Parking is always a problem in the centre of town, and this visit was no exception - and as always, there was no space in the hotel car park. The room was nice and was very clean - with the added bonus of having a jacuzzi bath. The room was located at the front of the hotel so was a little noisy during the early evening. The problems started when the fire alarm was set off at 2am and we were all evacuated onto the street where we stood for over half an hour - when it became apparent that there was no member of staff on site and no-one was going to appear in a hurry to turn off the ear-splitting sirens

Most worrying was the fact that the front door was left wide open (apparently a prankster had entered the hotel and deliberately set off the alarms for a 'joke') however, this would raise the question about personal security and the security of belongings

Finally back in bed it seemed like about 5 minutes before it was time for the shambles that the hotel call breakfast - no clear tables, no clean cutlery or crockery, no food, appalling service

On the whole I would recommend finding a better, cheaper, nicer hotel in Aberystwyth - there are plenty - and avoid this place like the plague

Good breakfast but that's about it.

I'm not expecting the Hilton for £60 but a decent sleep and shower are basics.

Good points: The hotel is very conveniently situated, just 5 minute walk from the station and about the same to the sea front. The breakfast is great. Bad points: I stayed in room 10, which is a single, en-suite. To say that it was tired would be an understatement. It was grubby too. The mattress had no padding between the cover and the springs. I've previously slept on a hay stuffed affair in rural France and I thought that was bad, but no, this was luxury compared to the one in room 10. The shower didn't work; there was just a disappointing dribble. What water I could get out of it was freezing cold. There was hot water coming out of the basin tap but not from the shower-I had a strip wash. The bar and 'restaurant' shuts at 9.30 and the staff all left at 10. We were all left in the hotel with no one around and the doors are left unlocked. I thought that was a bit weird. Would I go back. No.
