not really a 4 star hotel
This is more like a guest house than a hotel.
The front door was locked with a paper notice sellotaped to the glass inside with the phone number to ring for entry. There don't seem to be staff other than the owner who has a buzzer outside his "quarters". On the occasion we tried him just before 10pm one night he didn't answer and we gave up after 3 rings. There are no phones to contact reception in the rooms. He didn't give the impression that he was at our service and on the second day a notice was laid on the ivory sofa in the reception area that it was not to be sat on. Why. We don't know - perhaps it had been cleaned- but my husband had certainly been sitting on it before then. There's a notice in the bathroom asking you to ensure you remove your make up before using the towels.
Room 7 was a standard room and was spacious and pleasant although the radiator was inadequate and we had to ask for an additional heater. Room 9 was a superior room and was also spacious with a lovely view of the Clyde and the ferry.
We got a good deal with 2 nights for the price of 1.
Lovely hotel only disappointment no evening meals.
