About the hotel
A warm welcome awaits you at this former Baptist Chapel which now serves as a luxury guest house in Ebbw Vale South Wales. Soar Chapel began life in 1851 as a fellowship of Protestant Dissenters from the Church of England of the Denomination of the Baptist. It was welsh speaking until 1904-05 when 100 were baptised and membership reached 254, then services began to be entirely in English.
It closed its doors for what was thought the last time, about twenty-six years ago. We purchased the Chapel in 2000 and set about lovingly restoring it to make it our family home. We are now open as a Guest House and are extending our hospitality to visitors from all corners of the globe. We are known for the special care and attention to detail which we provide for all of our guests. We want to make your stay with us as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. There is something for everyone at Soar Chapel.

Excellent 1 night stay
Situated near a family member so was ideal for us.
Clean and welcoming. Lovely large lounge with tv, games, books and music available. The room was lovely and clean. Plenty of space, and featured a huge walk in wardrobe. Bathroom facilities were excellent. Breakfast was freshly cooked and lovely. Staff very friendly and polite.
Excellent Place to Stay
I stay in a lot of places as a result of my job, so generally only leave review when I have had a particularly good experience or when I feel it important to warn other guests if the experience was extremely bad or the venue not as described (the latter being rare).
The guest house was really easy to find and it was immediately obvious that the family had invested a lot of love, thought and time in the renovation and decoration of the property. There is a small area for parking at the rear with a nice little gated garden for children at the front.
I arrived during the early evening while the family were having a barbeque get together, which did distract our hostess a little. I also missed out on the welsh cakes everyone has been talking about. LOL
I stayed in the Blue Room, which was clean and nicely decorated, it had all the little touches that gave the room a homely feel to it, without being too prissy. The bed was huge with a good mattress and bed linen, the bed was extremely comfortable and you were able to relax and chill out with a book or the television. There was also a very large family/guest lounge area at the top of the main staircase which was open to all to use as required. Breakfast was excellent with a huge choice available - ranging from cereals, fresh fruit pots, juice and pastries to a full welsh breakfast, eggs benedict or pancakes, I defy anyone not have found something they would like to eat and lots of it.
If I had to be really picky I can only mention the squeaky floorboards (the building is old though), they picked up every step outside and inside the room. Having said that, sleep was not disturbed once everyone had settled for the night. I just work up a little earlier than normal as our hostess or her staff got in early to prepare breakfasts. I would certainly recommend this guest house to anyone, whether they want a good base to go walking in the hills or, like me, they want a clean, comfortable, friendly place to stay while on business in the area, that is not too expensive. You would feel very welcome and breakfast would certainly set you up for the day. Excellent Value For Money from all points of view. Thank you ladies for making my stay enjoyable and I look forward to booking again in the future.
