One major niggle - but otherwise good value and nice hotel

I booked into this hotel for two nights dinner bed and breakfast for the 13th and 14th February.

My husbands birthday is on the 14th February. I had e mailed the hotel at the time of booking - January- requesting a birthday cake for my husband on the 14th February. I would have preferred to have the cake on the morning of the 14th which would have given us the whole day to eat the cake but I was advised it would be easier for the staff if we had it in the evening. I said that was fine, further e mails were sent when the hotel requested to know my husbands name for the cake. The 14th is Valentines Day and the staff were very busy - no cake appeared - and I decided just to let it go rather than make a fuss at the end of a nice day. The next morning (one day late) we were presented with a cake at breakfast - now whilst his was very kind of the staff it was a day late and we were on our way home - we didn't want to eat the cake at breakfast time - I asked for it to be boxed up. It was - and when we got home we saw that the cake was from the Coop it was re wrapped and there was no name on it. I fully understand that the cake might have been forgotten in the busyness of Valentines Day but I think that presenting a shop bought cake a day late and then charging £10 for it was not a good response. Otherwise the hotel was nice, good value and the main courses at dinner were good, not so much the desserts or starters. One member of staff was exceptionally helpful. A disappointing end to an otherwise pleasant stay
