About the hotel
In the mid 90's the Trooper faced closure and conversion to a housing development, but was rescued from this fate by the wholehearted opposition of the villagers, who objected to losing their local watering hole. It was at this time that the present owners took over and embarked on the regeneration of this wonderful pub. In the years since, the Trooper has built an enviable reputation for the quality of its food and drink, as well as for the excellent level of service and welcoming atmosphere.
The hotel is open all year round (with a slightly reduced service on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day). The restaurant & bar is open from Monday evening until Sunday lunch (closed Sunday evening & Monday lunch with the exception of Bank Holiday weekends when our bar & restaurant is open for lunch on Bank Holiday Mondays and closed in the evening). Each room boasts a full range of facilities, including en suite, coffee & tea making facilities, Freeview TV, free Wifi access, direct dial phone, hairdryer and trouser press. The Trooper makes an excellent base for a relaxing and enjoyable break. We back onto the stunning Ashford Hangers nature reserve, and are well positioned for the South Downs, Jane Austen's Chawton and Gilbert White's Selborne. The charming market town of Petersfield lies just a few minutes away with London approximately one hour by train from Petersfield.

Excellent staff, room, food and beer
Fantastic friendly and attentive staff.
The room was very nicely decorated and clean. Very quiet location. The food was exceptional - I highly recommend the Beef Wellington, the best I have ever had. Beer is well cared for and perfectly pulled (I live in the north now so really do appreciate a good southern pint when I'm down). Very relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend this Inn to anyone.
I stayed in the Trooper Inn whilst on a biking (motor) tour of the South & East.
There did not appear to be very much around, the place being the only habitation in sight; however I did not really go out and explore. My room was 'Oakshott' - a double booked for single occupancy. The room was quite small without being cramped (not sure what it would be like for two!), but did have the benefit of a small balcony looking out into the garden to the rear. The place was clean and staff were quite efficient and I enjoyed a very good meal in the 'quaint' bar and a good breakfast in the morning. For a biker with a rather large and heavy tourer, the car park was not the best being gravel and sloping...
