About the hotel
Forest Hills Lochside Resort is beautifully set in landscaped gardens and woodland on the shores of Loch Ard - ideal for exploring the magnificent Trossachs, Scotland's first National Park. The resort is surrounded by 25 acres of wooded landscaped gardens with clear, bubbling burns and well tended paths meandering through the grounds. The resort, which includes a 4 star hotel complex, is stunningly situated in the heart of Rob Roy country - an area steeped in history and legend.
Its peaceful atmosphere feels far from the madding crowd, yet it is easily accessible from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling. And then there is Forest Hills itself - set in 25 acres of carefully landscaped gardens and woodland - with accommodation to match. Excellent furnishings and fully equipped kitchens are standard - many apartments and lodges have their own sauna. Most are south facing with stunning views across the loch from their own private patios or balcony, with outdoor furniture. All are incredibly spacious. Outdoors there are tennis courts and during the season our lochside marina provides boating and windsurfing nearby. The leisure centre includes a swimming pool, sauna, plus steam room, solarium, and gymnasium. And within the resort is the Forest Hills Hotel, where you'll find our famed 'Taste of Scotland' dishes in the excellent Garden Restaurant.

Highly disappointing for a Macdonald resort
As a family with a 6 month old baby this was our first holiday in a year.
We spent a lot of time deliberating where we would go as this was our first trip away with our young son. We settled on your resort as we have previously holidayed with Macdonald Highland in Aviemore and my family are members at your Dalfaber resort. As you can imagine we were looking for a relaxing break and we trusted your name as we have never been disappointed during our stays in Aviemore. Prior to our arrival my wife emailed the hotel and requested a high chair and cot, the reception team promptly responded to say they had added a special request to our booking. This reinforced confidence with us and we were thoroughly looking forward to our stay. Check in was detailed as 5pm. We set off and made a day of our travels arriving at the resort just after 5pm. We had to collect the keys to our lodge from the hotel reception desk as the lodge services department closed at 4pm on a Sunday, not a great start as the hotel reception team didn’t have a great knowledge of the lodges. We were allocated Red Maple 12. First impressions were not good. The lodge was extremely dark and dingy and smelt quite strongly of damp. We put the heating on and tried to settle in. Second of all there was no sign of the cot and highchair we had requested and we now had a very hungry baby on our hands. Eventually a member of staff arrived with a high chair and travel cot. Not until we went to set up the travel cot did we discover it didn't even have a mattress and quite frankly it looked pretty dirty. Needless to say we did not bother setting it up and our son slept in the bed with us. We purchased our own travel cot the next day. We switched the TV on to discover it had absolutely no TV channels whatsoever. After a phone call to reception they assured us there was a problem with the TV and it was getting fixed the following day. When the following day came we were told ‘it will now be tomorrow (Tuesday) it will be fixed’ and by the time Wednesday came round we were told actually its just the signal is poor here. Who was telling the truth. Among others things we couldn’t get the main oven to work and the next day I complained to lodge services. The gentleman I dealt with there could not of been more helpful and promptly got us moved to one of the refurbished lodges Silver Birch 1. I found lodge services to be far more helpful than the hotel reception staff who were not equipped to deal with lodge guests. We spent the whole of the morning packing up our stuff and moving lodges and as you can imagine with a baby this is not a 5 minute job. With no TV signal we tried logging into the WIFI, which we had no problems with in Red Maple, and it was completely dead. Again we were told it wasn’t switched on to then be told no actually its just we have very poor signal and it doesn’t work in the lodges. By this point we were pretty fed up and felt we were just getting every excuse thrown at us.
The other thing I found very strange was paying for electricity used. Anytime I have stayed somewhere that charges are taken for electricity a reading is taken on the day of arrival and the day of departure. This did not seem to be the case at Forest Hills. After discussing this with lodge services a member of staff did come and take a reading with myself. Overall we were very disappointed with our stay. We felt that the resort does not match up to the finely polished version given off on your website. We went away looking for a stress free and relaxing break and feel like we got the opposite. We lost a day of our holiday with all the stress of moving lodges and complaining and in all honesty feel like we need a holiday to recover. The swimming pool was the only redeeming feature for us and we enjoyed a number of swims with our baby son.
Thoroughly disappointed with Forest Hills and I must say its given us a completely different outlook to Macdonald Resorts, we will not be hurrying back to another Macdonald Hotel or Resort and we will certainly not be recommending them.
