Very friendly, helpful staff.
Fine selection of good ales in the bar, magnificent views over the Moray Firth from the restaurant.
Firstly I think calling the 'Braeval' a hotel is very misleading.
It's not much more than a back street pub that does accommodation. On our arrival, there was no parking, and the nearest car park was 10 minutes walk away. We were lucky and found a space on the street, thankfully. We asked about food, but the restaurant was fully booked, never had that before, where a hotel guest can't get food at the hotel where they're staying. And then we were informed that as it was a Saturday, there would be live music later. Unfortunately, my expectations of live music in a hotel was different to reality. A 5 piece rock band playing until 12.45, was what followed. Reception wouldn't answer, so we couldn't even complain. Finally by 2am all the noise stopped. The room was poor, smelt very smoky, soft bed, poor shower room, and generally tired. Breakfast wasn't much better, as we went down stairs, we were greeted by all the mess from the previous night, and quality of breakfast was poor. When we complained about the noise, we had no apology, just a 'it was a busy night and it was a rock band'!. Overall experience. terrible.
I'm sorry you did not enjoy your visit. We try to ensure that we provide prospective guests with enough information to help them to pick the style of hotel that suits their preference. For example, we promote ourselves as a pub-hotel with live music. We state on Late Rooms and our own website that we have no private parking, but that there is free on street parking in Crescent Road. The street is only 150 metres long, so parking is a moment's walk from the hotel entrance. The restaurant was fully booked because it is popular. This is why we advise guests via Late Rooms and our website to book
in advance. However, you could have eaten at a later time or had the same menu in the Lounge Bar. It states on all booking websites that we have live music at weekends and states that rooms "may be affected by noise. If this is an issue, please contact the hotel and we will allocate a quieter room if available". As a courtesy, you were reminded on arrival about the live music. All our rooms have been totally refurbished within the last few weeks. We were recently inspected by Visit Scotland who graded as a "high end, quality" 3 star small hotel.
