One of the worst places I have stayed in in the world and definitely the worst in England.
I was attending a conference at the university and arrived with little time to spare so I just wanted to drop off my luggage and pay the bill - my taxi was waiting. I found a door with chipped paint and a paper sign on it saying to ring the bell and if there was no answer to try a series of phone numbers. I waited a long time and no-one came and was about to ring when someone in the carpark told me the door was open all the time. I found the gentleman in charge in a pokey back room and was unable to make him understand that I needed to leave quickly - he insisted on my filling in a form (or rather putting info on a blank piece of paper as required by a master copy of the form. Then I had to go to my room to leave my bag - this was in an annex up two staircases with laundry strewn all over the corridors. I was in too much of a hurry to complain, but they had lied about it being an en suite room and the bathroom was fairly disgusting. Also, the door handle came off on the inside every time I used it making me feel that I was in danger of being locked in - the shower head also came off. The room itself was clean with clean sheets and towels and tea-making facilities, but pokey and shabby. When I left, there was no-one at 'reception' and so I left the key outside. The people in charge really still need to learn the basics.
The main building is scary, a corridor is used as a very crammed reception, and the people were very odd.
We were given a piece of paper and a former traveler registration cards and we were asked to copy in the piece of paper our personal details as they are requested in a registration card. We were then sent two a building about 5 hundred meters away, which was very clean. In fact, the bathroom was very small but not bad and the towels and bed linen were very clean. The room was very small and there was too much heating!
