Midweek stop over
I was at the G&H for 2 nights as I was on a training course.
On my arrival I was given a very warm welcome and shown to my room (5) It's an old building (16th century) so you expect some building issues however my room was clean, comfy and super well stocked with tea, coffee, milk & sugar I never once had to go and ask for more (as you do in other budget chains) the toilet was spotlessly clean as were the bathroom facilities. Newbury is a very expensive place to stay so for £54 per night I found it great VFM.
The only things against it are its car park is small, if your in the courtyard rooms I can imagine it could be noisy, as there is a beer garden and the car park. It seems that the majority of guests are workers and therefore the pub is always fairly busy, although they close at 11 & by 11.30 it was pretty quiet.
I would recommend if your staying for a couple of nights midweek but not sure how it would be over a weekend.
