Very welcoming hosts

The Duke Hotel is a lovely old building with a bar & garden area to enjoy a drink.

The food served was cooked fresh & came piping hot & was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Duke Hotel stay

This is not a big hotel in a chain.

It's a family run hotel with a nice level of contact and welcome. Considering the family had not long been running the hotel everything was in place for a quiet relaxed stay. Unfortunately it's not on my usual travel routes but would like to stay again.

The Duke Hotel

Was a nice room but unsure of the £145 it costs to stop in it.

The bar was good and well set out but shame the wasn't really any beer to choose from.

poor customer service

We arrived late on Saturday night, entering the bar where a dozen locals were drinking.We were gestured to the end of the bar where opening comment was " it is £80 " and got out card machine.

We were shown to our room past the open door to the kitchen. The whole area including our room smelt of stale cooking oils. The room was a good size with a king size bed. The bathroom was on the small size with not much room to dry oneself (with the small bathtowels provided) after a shower. We were directed to read the folder about meal times. The one page leaflet stated we must check we didnt leave anything behind as it would not be posted on. A notice on the back of the bedroom door stated we couldnt consume our own food in the room . or we would be evicted and would not be refunded. Breakfast - a pot of tea and coffee were left on the buffet table. As there were just 3 tables set for breakfast I would have expected to be asked and a pot brought to the table.The cooked breakfast was reasonable but would have been better grilled not fried. When we checked out the landlord was not to be seen so we left our key on the bar. We took our case out through a back door,which we had been told the previous night, was the route the car park. We were loading the car when we were accosted by the landlord for not closing the garden gate which we had found open. He then moaned about another guest who taken their dogs into their bedroom - none of our business. They certainly need to learn about customer service

wonderful welcome

a very picturesque location, and lovely building, then what a wonderful friendly welcome we received from John and Lesley .

our room was comfortable and restfully decorated also, slept like a log . the locals were friendly and included us in their conversations at the bar down stairs, which made us feel very relaxed and at home . We had dinner that night at the Duke , and the food was simply delicious ..the Steak and ale pie is highly recommended by my fiance Rob . after another restful relaxing sleep we had the full English breakfast ( would be rude not to . ) and again , served quickly and totally delicious....Ok , people say it all the time , but this is truly meant ..We will be going back again :-)
