Reviews - White Horse Inn

3Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
The White Horse Inn, Marsh Way, Woolstone, Uffington, SN7 7QL
The White Horse is one of Britain's oldest Inns and with its thatched roof, oak beams, log fires and warm welcome is probably one of its most beautiful, as well. Built in Elizabethan times, the pub itself is almost half a century old and is set in the olde worlde village of Woolstone, in the heart of the vale of Whitehorse; 11 miles from Swindon, 5 miles from Faringdon and 7 miles from Wantage. Popular with locals, tourists, and all those who love good food and good accommodation, the pub is perfect for those who enjoy walking and exploring the visual delights of the nearby White Horse Hill, the Ridgeway and other ancient monuments. The White Horse Inn in Woolstone is named after the monument on the nearby hillside of Uffington. Nobody knows for sure when the Uffington horse was cut, though the general belief now is that it is probably 2000 years old and possibly even older. The Ridgeway, which is possibly the oldest road in Europe, lies within easy reach of the inn. Stone Age man once walked along its route - not only long before the likes of Stonehenge came into being, but even before Britain was an island.

Welcoming country inn
Only stayed on a quiet weekday night, but we were made welcome, and service was prompt and friendly. Food was excellent, as was the real ale. Would return if back in the area.

Country retreat
The inn is set in a traditional picture postcard village. It is just what you want from the olde world. The service is attentive, the owner even offering to give us a lift to our car which we had left in a neighbouring village following a party. The rooms are in a seperate block but are a step away from the inn. Ours was clean and comfortable. We only stayed for breakfast, but if that was typical of the menu standard then I would think the dinners would be good. Our friend, a local, confirmed this.

Excellent good value accommodation in a traditional pub.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.. We have stayed at the White Horse before and the quality of
the bedrooms together with the perfectly cooked breakfasts mean we will certainly return again.

Excellent stay
Booked this at the last moment, and was not dissapointed. A lovely village Pub. The service and food were excellent, and there is loads of easy parking. The rooms are in an old stable block/outbuilding, mine had a bedroom downstairs and bathroom on the second floor which gave the room a nice feel.
The only thing to watch out for are the very low beams! But will defintely stay again when I am in the area.
