Can't wait to return
Exceptional hotel, the rooms are divine
Smack in centre of town , shops and eateries .
Lovely hotel although slightly shabby with threadbare carpets and bubbling paintwork in the bathroom but aside from that nothing to criticise. Breakfast service and quality was great . We did however , receive an overnight parking fine because as far as I'm concerned, the lass on reception did not make it crystal clear ( she may have , in her mind , so maybe our mistake) that we MUST park behind the co-op and not on the other side . ... We had a Grosvenor parking permit on the dash board so council could have given them a call to warn us we were on the wrong side but no . Can't comment on food as we didn't have any aside from breakfast ... Bit pricey we thought so ate out . Late night revellers were noisy but all in all would stay again without a doubt.
Bank holiday Monday treat
Excellent hotel, probably best hotel ever stayed in.
Great location. Reception quirky with desk rather than counter and lady on reception could not be more helpful. Nice touch taking us to room, just perfect. Shower huge and powerful. Bed comfy and decadent design. Room not cheap but worth every penny. Breakfast good quality ingredients, both really enjoyed.
Two day mini break
The hotel public areas were very modern and well presented.
The room (superior double) was of a decent size, however we were overlooked by other rooms, the room was very hot throughout the day/night and we were limited to opening the window in the evening due the noise in the courtyard from the bar.
The Grosvenor Arms - a Bespoke Hotel
Had a lovely stay.
Food was very good staff very friendly. Room big shower great.
Top contemporary hotel which doesn't deptart from its traditional role as country town hotel
The Grosvenor Arms in Shaftesbury is a wonderful example of a contemporary hotel which blends seamlessly into the country town setting.
It doesn't so much transform the town as enhance its tradition as a local hub of social and business activity, as well as supporting tourist activity. Its central position places a huge responsibility on it, but it carries this off with great aplomb. It is the de facto meeting place for businessmen, friends and visitors. The layout of the hotel is unusual - almost quirky - but after you have oriented yourself and negotiated the missing and misleading signage, you will find a marvellous and generous use of space. So generous that there seems to be a whole dining room to the right of reception that is never used. The rooms are a delight and each is individually and thoughtfully designed. They are contemporary, but with sufficient classical input to prevent them dating in a few years time. I have stayed once in a lovely, if slightly cramped double (perfect for one) and once in a huge twin room, which was perfectly proportioned.
The restaurant, bar and terrace and arranged with interesting seating areas and again plenty of space. The bar itself is more functional than a place to sit and have a drink, and the service to some of the lounge areas can be a little slow. But the cheerful young staff usually manage to get there in the end. The restaurant menu reflects the hotel in that it is slightly quirky, but also innovative and at times inspired. I sometimes struggle to choose, and I wonder why the mains are served with no vegetables and the side dishes are then meals in themselves. Use of the wood oven is obviously good for pizzas, but I wonder about the wisdom of cooking marinated fish in it. Some dishes take on the aroma of wood smoke and the density of the heat better than others. Breakfast is excellent, wonderful choices and all very nicely presented.
Very good location and very nice hotel
We enjoyed our stay at the Grosvenor Arms and will happily return in the future.
Shaftesbury is a quiet town with some nice pubs and great views out over the countryside.will be going back to spend more time exploring.
