Reviews - The Pear Tree at Purton

3AA Assessed Hotel Ratings explained
CHURCH END, PURTON, SWINDON, SN5 4ED
The Pear Tree at Purton, formerly the vicarage, is an elegant Cotswold stone hotel set in seven acres on the outskirts of the Saxon village of Purton, which nestles in the Vale of the White Horse between the Cotswolds and the Marlborough Downs. Just five miles from the Wiltshire town of Swindon, the hotel is within easy access of the M4 and is perfectly placed to visit numerous West Country attractions including the Cotswolds, Longleat, Blenheim Palace, the Georgian city of Bath and Stonehenge.

'Dedication to service is the hallmark of this quietly excellent country hotel in the famous Vale of the White Horse, deep in rural Wiltshire…' as described by the RAC when it awarded The Pear Tree with the Blue Ribbon, its highest award for excellence. The Pear Tree has 17 individually decorated en suite rooms and suites, many with spa baths and one with a four-poster bed. All the hotel rooms are furnished to a high standard and offer a host of luxury amenities.

In The Pear Tree's Conservatory Restaurant, Head Chef Alan Postill specialises in modern English cooking using the very best of fresh ingredients. His food has been the recipient of many awards, including two rosettes from the AA, and is matched with an excellent wine list. The Pear Tree's beautiful gardens are a perfect place to relax.

Within easy access of Swindon, the hotel, with its peaceful setting in Purton, is the ideal choice for a stay away, meetings, private functions and weddings. The Pear Tree provides stylish function rooms, professional service and excellent food, making it a venue suitable for any occasion.

The Pear Tree at Purton is set in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside just five miles from Swindon, between the Cotswolds and the Marlborough Downs. The hotel's convenient location puts guests within accessible distance by car from the numerous attractions in the Cotswolds, Wiltshire and nearby Somerset and Oxfordshire. The choice of places to visit during your stay at The Pear Tree is truly astounding, with Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace, Longleat, the Georgian city of Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucester and historic Oxford all within a 40-mile radius of the hotel.

Within the immediate vicinity of The Pear Tree is Lydiard House and Country Park as well as Swindon and Cricklade Railway, with the Cotswold Water Park just eight miles away.

Nearby Swindon was one of the world's great railway towns for 150 years and houses the Museum of the Great Western Railway, pioneered by Brunel. The McArthur Glen Designer Outlet is also a popular shopping choice in Swindon for discounted designer fashions.

This part of Wiltshire is renowned for its prehistoric sites, with the best known being Stonehenge that stands on Salisbury Plain, west of Amesbury. Avebury is also one of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe and is well worth a visit.

England is studded with country houses, and the West Country has some of the country's finest stately homes. Longleat, the ancestral home of the Marquis of Bath and the first safari park in England, is a fascinating place for a day out for the entire family while Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, is just 40 miles from The Pear Tree. Closer to the hotel is Bowood House and Gardens, the home of the Earl of Shelburne, with over 90 acres of gardens landscaped by 'Capability' Brown. Sheldon Manor, one of the oldest homes in England, and Corsham Court are also worth visiting.

High quality accommodation with excellent customer service
What a find, we will definitely be going back.
We booked this accommodation only a few hours before arriving and chose it based on all the excellent reviews. The hotel staff from the minute we arrived couldn't do enough to make our few days with them truly a pleasure.
Our room was wonderfully appointed looking over the serene gardens, the bed was really comfortable and the extra touches like home-made biscuits and apples from the gardens were really appreciated.
We ate in the restaurant both evenings we were there and the food was of a very high quality and beautifully presented. The breakfast had something for everyone, fresh fruit, home-made muesli, honey from their own beehive plus a wonderful selection of hot food cooked to order.
I can't speak highly enough of the staff, we felt like we were one of the family and were looked after better than any 5* hotel we have ever stayed at. Thank you and we hope to come back soon.

An excellent stay
I found the Pear Tree at Purton to be a lovely place to stay in an idilic setting. The staff were helpful and informative and friendly there is an attention to detail for their clients needs and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The house and grounds are beautiful and mainly peaceful. The restaurant was lovely and the food was adventurous and delicious maybe a bit more for the gentlemen would be nice but it was nouvelle cuisine dinning . The rooms were spacious and clean and a lot of thought had gone into every item presented perhaps a way to present milk for tea and coffee would be the next step forward but the current method of flasks for the milk works. Well done to the proprietors and staff we would recommend you to our friends and stay again.

Peaceful location
Hotel is ideal for a peaceful stay but close enough for business trip in Swindon. My room overlooked the well cared for garden. I spent a lovely tranquil hour in the wilderness area of the garden near the vineyard reading after a hectic day in the office. Decided to eat in the resataurant. Food tasty but was slightly disappointed by the small size of the portions.
Had a good night's sleep as comfy beds and no noise of traffic. Good fruit juice and their own honey at breakfast which was good. However bacon was overdone and coffee too stewed. Would however stay again.
