Ideal location as a base for discovering Hamburg
Nice, clean and reasonably well equipped.
The Achat is right in the centre of Buchholz which is a lovely town with lots of quality shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Buchholz is a residential town, so has a friendly community feel and great access to bus and train stations. The rooms are large and have most of what you would want with the exception of free wifi. You can get free wifi in the reception area as well as access to a computer. That said, 10 euros for a week's access to wifi does not represent good value. Most cafes have free and quick access to wifi though. We utilised the pool and sauna quite a number of times during our 7-day stay, which was a really good way to chill out and relax prior to going out in the evening. We decided against the 24 euro price tag for breakfast and ate at the local cafe in the Galerie which was excellent food and great value at 2.70 euros for fresh scrambled eggs on toast with garnish and fresh cup of coffee. There is also one eat-all-you-can breakfast buffet at the Emporium (Lim's restaurant and bar) for 7.50 euros per person which was also a great value, if you want to fill up and then travel to Hamburg, Breman and Luneburg. Luneburg is stunning with original architecture from past times that are amazingly beautiful and add the Christmas markets to it - made for a perfect Christmas card picture. Breman was equally lovely with a tasteful mix of old and new. Great shopping at Breman too. Hamburg is a large city with loads to do. We visited the Christmas markets (there are many across the city) and we also got up early to visit the famous "fish market" and also enjoyed the rock concert in the main hall which was an amazing atmosphere and saw all age groups coming together to eat and drink......and they do in large quantity but without a trace of trouble anywhere. We initially intended on hiring a car but took a punt at the trains to access all areas. They are so reliable and easy to use as well as cheap. We avoided car rental and would do so again on our next visit. All in all I can recommend the Achat and whilst I would like to see better tea and coffee arrangements and wifi in the rooms the hotel was immaculately clean, beds well attired, rooms cleaned daily and the pool and spa area a real bonus.
