Excellent Village Pub

The Jolly Tar is pretty much the perfect Village Pub.

My last visit was many years ago when I lived in Swindon and it was a good pub in those days and it has only got better. I have stayed in many hotels pubs and B&B's and this place suits me perfectly. The rooms are converted outbuildings opposite the car park, mine had a high exposed roof adding character to a well designed, clean and comfortable well equipped room. My en-suite shower room was not the biggest but entirely adequate. Plenty of hot water and heating. I would imagine that due to their location the rooms will not be stifling hot in summer either. The menu is not extensive but has a good selection of generous and well cooked and presented portions. It is an Arkells pub with three of their real ale beers, all three perfectly served. Breakfast is a expensive at £10 but is excellent quality. The pub is in the centre of Hannington which is a small village just outside of Swindon off the Highworth Road. Far enough away to be perfectly peaceful. Easy to find and plenty of parking. I stayed on a Monday and enjoyed chatting to several friendly villagers and Chris the barman who was unusually for these days extremely genuinely welcoming and friendly.

I very much look forward to my next visit.
