Basic hotel in a beautiful location
The hotel room was very basic but comfortable.
Good points - the room had everything we needed, a comfortable bed and a decent shower. The pool and sauna were an added bonus which we made the most of during our visit. Lydiard park itself is stunning, the grounds, the tearooms and the walks available as soon as you exit the hotel were lovely.
Bad points - Our room was quite noisy as it was on the ground floor close to reception and overlooked the walkway through to the hotel. Despite us closing the window (as we had valuables in our room) when we returned after our day out housekeeping had left the window and blinds open so everyone walking past could see everything we had in our room. The room was very tired and could do with freshening up and a new bathroom.
Needs Cleaning and TLC
The place is filthy throughout from the swimming pool changing rooms that are ankle deep in dirty water, the windows that haven't been cleaned in a very long time, to the bedrooms where the radiator was covered in stains.
The sauna has brown sludge on the floor, the mirrored walls in the swimming pool area are all cracked and the ceiling tiles are in an appaling state. The stairwells are so dusty you can draw in the dust.
The reception isn't manned but there is no way to attract attention so you just have to wait. And if you ask for towels for swimming, (as suggested) the receptionist is just plain rude to you. The photos on the website are deceitful. The food on those photos is NOT the food that is available. And the rooms are certainly not any we saw, and we saw a few in the morning when the cleaners were in. The beds are not true doubles so it is an intimate squeeze for two adults, especially as originally it was pushed against the wall.
The surrounding grounds are lovely but this accommodation is dreadful.
