Beautiful building, great stay.
I booked this hotel at the last minute on Friday night and we were very pleased when they upgraded our room upon arrival.
Due to a large wedding disco in the evening we were given a large two bedroomed apartment at the back of the hotel so that we would not be disturbed by the noise which was very considerate and appreciated. ‘The Eastwing’ as they called it consisted of a large bedroom with a settee, writing desk and flat screen TV, there was also a smaller bedroom with yet another small TV, a large bathroom with a very deep bath and a walk-in shower and a separate toilet, all accessible via a hall.
The view from both bedrooms was rather picturesque as it overlooked the formal gardens and the adjoining countryside. We booked our dinner for 8.30pm and when we arrived at the bar just after 8pm it was heaving with all the guests attending the wedding disco, yet we were served quickly and even found a seat. The dinner was priced quite reasonable at £22.50 for a 3 course meal which included an entrecôte steak without a surcharge and which was cooked rare to perfection and to my liking.
The next morning, after a cooked breakfast, we checked out but noticed that the young man at reception was somewhat confused by the bill and he went off to find out how this bill had been made up. When he came back I paid the bill but found that they had charged me for the ‘Eastwing’ and then deducted the price I was quoted by Laterooms which left me with an overcharge of £18.00. When I questioned this he seemed perturbed and when the very pleasant guy who actual upgraded us explained to him that we should just be charged the rate quoted to us by Laterooms he rather grudgingly refunded me the £18.00 overcharge. I understand the he was the son of the owner and it was notably obvious that he was not happy about this and that he felt we should have paid more for the room or, maybe, not have questioned the bill. There was a marked change in his attitude which slightly dampened my enthusiasm and praise of ‘Sweeny Hall’ which otherwise was very pleasant and enjoyable.
Its like a mini Downton Abbey.
First class service.
Very impressed especially for the price.
Slightly noisy with lots of events going on and not much carpet in the landings etc but soon quietened down and had an excellent sleep. Food superb.
Lovely old house and gardens, staff excellent
All very much enjoyed the stay, would go back anytime
it was great
Beautiful room - would stay again but!
I stayed here one night in their smallest double, room 8.
Beautiful decor, bed and can swivel tv so you can see it from the bath or the bed. Only trouble was there was no hot water for a bath and breakfast didn't start until 8.30 on the weekend. I was staying here as my partner has been on hospital near by for a couple of months and a bath and cooked breakfast I had longed for. Really thought I'd get it here but I was unlucky I guess. Would still stay again though just because it's so peaceful, breautiful and in lovely grounds.
An excellent find located in the valley of Oswestry tucked away in quite countryside offering peace and tranquility with excellent food dished up.
The room given was spacious and relaxing a home from home.
Comfort and charm
Excellent breakfast food, quirky but comfortable rooms with ample facilities, in a truly idyllic setting.
