A nice stay, friendly staff, fabulous food, but a bit cold due to broken boiler!
We enjoyed our stay here and had a great Valentines meal, which was first class. The only downside was that the boiler was broken and the room was cold. The windows were open when we arrived so the room was cold on arrival, and with no heating it never really warmed. The staff were helpful and lent us a standalone heater, though unfortunately it never really heated up the room enough. There is a lovely open fire in the restaurant, so we warmed ourselves up a bit in front of that. The lack of warmth didn't unduly spoil our stay. It's a nice enough place and for the discounted price we got it was worth it. The bed was comfortable - that was a big plus - not sure about the 4 star rating, though.

Dreadful stay but so much potential
Lovely old building with a nice bar and log fires. Shown to a room which was freeeeezing and the window was wide open. No handle to shut it as was broken off!! Boiler had broken earlier in day apparantly?? Requested new room which was gloomy & freezing. Requested a heater which was delivered during our meal which was really nice. Heater old & broken! In the morning no hot water!!! JD Weatherspoons are a huge successful company. Spend some money on this place guys.

Shame
It was nice to see a log fire burning when we arrived, the pub area was lovely and looked very cozy we was looking forward to our stay, The staff was very friendly and the food was fine but the accommodation was very disappointing, it was Freezing, there was no heating on, we complained and apparently the boiler had broken down. We got given an extra duvet.
I would not of paid full price for this accommodation and we certainly will not be returning!

Excellent value for money and very friendly staff
We had an excellent value one night stay at The White Hart. The staff made us feel very welcome and the atmosphere was warm, pleasant and relaxed. We enjoyed a good evening meal in the beamed and candlelit restaurant followed by a short stroll in the town square right outside the hotel. The building is old, quirky and interesting. Our room was a good size with a roomy ensuite. As other reviewers have said there was evidence of black mould on the walls around the windows which is unsightly and probably needs constant attention to keep at bay. The bedlinen and towels were nicely clean though and the room comfortable. Breakfast was tasty with good quality sausages. All in all we felt very welcome and with such an incredible value for money Laterooms deal (£22 B&B)! we would definitely stay at The White Hart again in this beautiful part of the country.
