Lovely venue - needs a lovely restaurant
This is a fabulous old building set in lovely grounds. The hotel is furnished in keeping with its character and would make a great romantic venue (it is v popular for weddings). Staff were friendly and polite and helpful.
Perhaps because I booked online I hadn't realised that the hotel does not have a restaurant as such. The "bistro" (complete with huge TV) is in the sports club, and in any case is not open on Sunday evening, so I ended up driving into Colchester to eat on both nights. I often travel alone and would not stay here on one of those occasions.
The quality of food at breakfast was excellent.

Easter break
Prested Hall is a cozy, friendly and relaxing place to visit. The staff are approachable and a will to help at your request. Maybe a bit over priced for what you get but an enjoyable experience all the same. There are also a good range of sporting and relaxation activities on offer from the club.

After an initial disappointment regarding the spa pool opening times, the manager very professionally dealt with the problem resulting in a happy ending. We enjoyed our stay and the facilities, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room lovely.

We will be going back to Prested Hall whenever we visit our family in Essex
We visit Essex a couple of times a year to see our family and have a short weekend break together. We normally stay at another hotel nearby, but it was full so we booked into Prested Hall as a last minute option. Our experience was so good, with excellent customer service, very good quality individually styled rooms and excellent food in the restaurant that Prested Hall will now be our preferred choice whenever we go to Essex. No doubts.
However, make sure you pre-book the afternoon tea if you like that sort of thing as the demand is high and you won't want to be disappointed especially if you are only on a short-stay. We were there in winter this time, but are looking forward to our summer visit as the location is perfect for a country walk.
The sports centre is next to Prested Hall and is very well equipped. Next time we will be pre-booking to have a go at the Real Tennis. The court looks ready for Henry VIII to get playing.
Great Hotel and highly recommended.
David.
