Disappointed and dissatisfied.
I was shown to my room I was disappointed to find it so cramped and dingy. The shower cubical is tiny and barely room to turn around and there was no hot water! The tile grouting and shower base were black and grimy. the bed was comfortable enough. Breakfast was disappointing and the coffee instant. Fresh coffee in the morning would have gone a little way to making amends.. When I went to check out I was asked how I enjoyed my stay and so I told them I was disappointed and about the cold water and the dirt and how I felt that the room was over priced. the charming gentleman behind reception offered me a complimentary stay in a different room which I declined as I will never go back to that hotel. the manager was less charming and quite confrontational pointing her finger in my face.. told me that I was wrong and that the room was not overpriced and it was my fault as I booked online and she assumed I was two people so £60 was right. (The hotel info stated the room as a single) Had I rung the hotel direct I would have got a discount! As I paid on arrival that argument doesn't really hold water. she gave me a £10 refund and asked me 'You happy now?' I didn't reply and I just left. I am not happy now. but I did not want a stand up row with the woman in the reception area.

Dear Mrs Julia Adams, Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately you had a bad experience in our hotel. Your bad experince started from the moment you came in at the reception and saw us and started to complain that you found it difficult to locate the hotel. You checked into your room and came back to complain about double doors in your room. Unfortunately we could no change your room for you because the hotel was full that night. There was no extra room available. The double doors are fire doors. We tried all we could to make you happy by offering you the choice of everything we had on our menu even outside the menu - Yoghurt, fruits etc. You refused to take anything. At the end in order to make you happy because it is our nature and the service we provide here in our hotel to make sure that our guests are happy, a refund of £10 was offered to you. Still not happy. We are not rude to our guests. The manager DID NOT point her finger in your face. That accusation is not fair! The whole world has changed. We are in a multicultural society. Try and be open minded any where and where ever you go. Sorry we could not serve you better.

very basic but clean room. food cooked to order very good. No hot water from tap or shower no hairdryer i think it needs to be cheaper for what you get

ManagementResponse

We told you when you checked in to feel free to use the free phone in your room to ask for anything you needed in your room. It is in the information booklet as well that if you need anything in you room or if you want to report any incident to phone us at the reception. We have a free phone in all the rooms. We do not keep hairdryers in the rooms. We only give it out on request. There are plenty of them at the reception. You did not inform us about the hot water till you were about to check out. It was only the hot water pressure that was low and we went to top it up immediately. Sorry about that. Julie

Not what was expected
I feel a bit bad to have to do this review as the woman who runs this Hotel was very nice and I am sure that she does her best but... a business does not only run on good attitude.
The Hotel is seriously dated, the so called Spa is chargeable and its not really a Spa but more of an old sauna and small jacuzzi in a room inside what it seems to be the lady's living area.
The décor of the room was very old and nothing match, it looked like a old persons room in which an old TV and other old furniture and appliances have been put together. The bed was very squeaky and the bedding looked really old.
The room was not dirty but it was not clean either, there were cob webs and dirt.
The doors slamming and the noise from the guest upstairs woke us up both mornings.
The location of the Hotel is good but in all fairness the rest of Hotels and B& B's around the area charge around the same amount of money (some even a bit less) and seemed to be in much better condition.
The Hotel has potential but it needs serious refurbishment.

2 Night Stay
Room was clean as was the bedding - a little too far out for the Soul Weekend - took about half hour to walk. Breakfast is ok. Suitable for the purpose of being out all day and a clean bed for the night...

Good value for money
Very helpful and friendly lady in charge who let me check in earlier than the stated time, which was great to offload luggage and get a shower after a long walk from the Rail Station..!! Situated nicely near Cliftonville seafront, it has a bar and restaurant a few yards away nearby. Overall, very good value for money with a nice breakfast too.

Accommodation was reasonably clean but very old and shabby. There were no staff only one lady who did everything. The door was locked when we arrived for check-in at 2pm and that's because she had gone out. The room was badly painted in awful colours and nothing matched. The sheets were torn and the duvet cover and other furnishings looked at least 30 years old. The TV was small and old fashioned. We had to ask for milk for the tea and coffee which was in the room, but the worst thing of all was there was no hot water for a shower in the morning so we both had to have cold showers. I wish I had spent another £15 and been able to have a hot shower. Overall this hotel belongs in the dark ages.

My ftrst ever visit to margate
The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the town with car parking on the road {free} The owner was very helpful and the food good. My stay was a short one but served my needs admirably. It is only a short walk to the Winter Gardens theatre The only thing i found was the shower was a bit small, but i am not exactly small myself
