On arrival, found no one on main reception desk, and there was no way to inform the staff of our arrival.
Had to wait for a good while to be seen by a member of staff - another guest at the hotel did have to inform us that all staff were in the bar area, so had to go and find someone. On finding we had no signal in the room, I tried the house phone which didn't work, so went down to reception to inform them. I was told a member of staff would come to sort it out straight away. This did not happen, and the phone was still not working when we left the following day. The room was very hot. I tried to regulate the radiator, but the control did not work. The radiator did switch off late in the evening, then the room was very cool early in the morning. Breakfast was OK although food luke warm. Overall, the hotel seemed rather dated and there was very little ambience.
Guest in room above snoring all night meant me and my partner were awake all night .
If we hadn't had the little boy I would of left and gone home . I told the reception at 4 in the morning he said we will sort you a refund cos there were no other rooms . I didn't get one so il never be booking with late rooms again .
Surely I can find something to moan about - but no.
The rain poured but could not ruin this perfect break away. My wife has not been well and this place was the perfect tonic. Loved:
Cheerful staff inc cleaning staff
The cornucopia of Christmas trees
Attention to detail
Fab gym/swimming facilities (will definitely use next time)
Warm and welcoming feel to the place
Ducks at the window!. Generous voucher towards future visit.
Short family break
an excellent family friendly hotel.
Great service and leisure facilities a bonus. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent and the staff extremely friendly.
Beautiful hotel - I think we had the best room....gorgeous view over the duck pond.
I would definitely stay there again.
Would be happy to go back
Nice hotel with a lovely garden in a quiet location.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Ideal location for visiting lake Windermere.
the damson dene
only stayed for one night but would have loved to have stayed a lot longer.
the staff were very welcoming on our arrival and supplied us with all the information we required. our room was a very nice room and ample in size and the bed very comfortable. We did not have an evening meal as we were out in Boness for a meal. We did have breakfast and it was excellent with plenty of choices of food and drinks. Wayne was a great host and was working his socks off to make sure everyone had what they wanted. we also saw him perform at the quiz night and was very funny making a quiz very entertaining. thank you to all the staff for making our one night really pleasant. Oh and I nearly forgot the Ducks who came and knocked on the windows at our breakfast table for some toast, not every day you get that, it was lovely.
Travelling with 2 children and a dog
Our arrival was smooth and seamless, the room was clean, well presented and with excellent facilities.
The hotel was dog friendly and having stayed in similar accommodation in the past we were very pleased that you could not tell the room had been used by previous dogs. The leisure centre was great and well used by us. The food was excellent, the variety at breakfast was great with something for everyone. The proximity of the hotel to Bowness was great. Would definitely recommend the hotel and we will be visiting again!
The best thing about the hotel is the staff, they are quite happy, helpfull and ready to please.
Our room was next to the stairs. Not great with 2 young kids as the noise at all hours from othere guests going up and down the stairs was horrendous. We paid a lot for our 2 night stay. The room was ok, the shower was literally a trickle and there was s strong odour (chemical like) in the bathroom. The best part of our stay was when we were leaving.
The only drawback was the address given on the confirmation details read Bowness on Windermere.
If I had been driving with my friend and not with my husband , who always uses a satnav device, I would never have found this lovely hotel. Perhaps the correct address informing that the hotel is not actually in Bowness would be more helpful to people like myself who don't travel by satnav !
