Reviews - The Shrewsbury Hotel - a JD Wetherspoon Hotel

3Self Classified Guest Accommodation Ratings explained
Mardol , Shrewsbury, SY1 1PU
The evolution of Shrewsbury has seen the town, first mentioned in a charter dating back to the year 901, develop into a stunning historic and artistic centre, with over 660 listed buildings and dozens of museums and galleries. This historical survival of the fittest would have made Charles Darwin, Shrewsbury's most famous son, proud. He attended school here and gained who knows how much early inspiration, playing by the clear sparkling waters of the River Severn which flows lazily through the town. There is a strong, association with the heavier side of science too. The birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, just outside Shrewsbury, was sparked by John wilkinson's cast iron bridge, now celebrated with UNESCO World Heritage status and plenty of award winning museums and with the magnificent Severn Valley Railway, The Roman city of Wroxeter, Offa's Dyke and a nuclear bunker all open to visitors, Shrewsbury is truly a place with something for everybody. "PLEASE NOTE THAT ACCOMMODATION IS TOTALLY NON SMOKING".

anniversary stay
room was nice
view was of pipes.
had to complain as we were woke up at 9.30 by cleaners rattling the door even though we put a do not disturb sign on the door. The receptionist said the do not disturb sign had please clean my room on the other side and that was why the cleaner woke us up.

Excellent stay !
Arrived late Saturday evening. We were able to secure a free parking space easily. The room was compact but spotless and decorated and furnished to a high standard. Bed was very comfortable, with extra pillows available. Lovely biscuits and a wide range of teas and coffee. Bottles of water too. Hair dryer and toiletries provided too! The reception is located to the side of the pub so guests have a separate entrance, a card operated doorway from reception allows guests to dine, again food was delicious and plenty of choice. Would definitely use hotel again and recommend it to friends.

Value for money near the centre of Shrewsbury
Nice clean and comfortable room at an affordable price. Only a few minutes walk from the train station, castle and shopping centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. And being a Wetherspoons you have a reasonable quality cheap place for food and drink.

great soundproofing
We were staying on a Saturday night before catching a ferry from holyhead the next morning so were gutted to have been given the room directly above the bar entrance. It turned out there was nothing to worry about as even though it was busy downstairs, the room was a lovely cocoon of silence! Well done wetherspoons. The breakfast was great value but a little cold.
