4AA Assessed Guest House Ratings explained
Lake Road , Windermere, LA23 2EQ
Located just ten minutes from Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere, this 4 star/gold award winning, smoke-free guest house has an extensive breakfast menu from fresh local produce, plus home made biscuits in the bedrooms. This traditionally built Lakeland-stone house sits in its own gardens; the atmosphere is relaxed and tranquil. Upon entry guests will be immediately aware that Glenville still holds a lot of its original character.

All 7 bedrooms are of a comfortable size. Consisting of 5 Classic Doubles and 2 Superior Double rooms, which have been refurbished in early 2011. Classic rooms have King sized beds. Superior rooms are even larger and have a bath and shower in the en-suite, one of these rooms is located on the ground floor overlooking the front garden and the other has a Super King sized bed. All rooms have en-suite facilities with luxury toiletries and bathrobes provided, as well as widescreen flat TV with Freeview, iPod Dock, CD clock/radio and an enhanced welcome tray, which is replenished daily.

At the Glenville staff believe it is important to start the day right, and the delicious freshly cooked Traditional Cumbrian Breakfast, with many locally produced ingredients takes some beating, vegetarians and special diets are catered for if guests inform the hotel of their requirements upon making their booking. With over 70 restaurants and eating houses within a 10-minute walk of Glenville House, guests will be spoilt for choice for dinner each evening.

Windermere is the central location for tourism in the Lake District and Glenville House is ideally situated a couple of minutes walk from the main village, with its excellent shops, fine restaurants and bistros.

From the doorstep there are many walks without the need to use a car. An easy walk down into Bowness and there is the home to the world of Beatrix Potter. Walk throughout Bowness to the lakeshore where you will find the pier that takes the lake cruises from Bowness to Ambleside, or Lakeside where you can enjoy the Aquarium of the lake or journey a little further on one of the steam trains on the Haverthwaite and lakeside railway. There are many things to do to suit all tastes within easy reach either by car or on one of the many trips organised in the area guests are truly spoilt for choice.

Glenville House are delighted to recommend visitor attractions, and are sure a visit to any one of them will make your stay more enjoyable. For the more adventurous and athletic information can be provided on both guided or unguided walks once guests arrive.

Enjoyable Stay
Although we only stayed 1 night the welcome we received was very warm indeed. Being on the top floor & having no lift assistance with any luggage was offered but we decided it wasn't worth bringing the large case in from the car. The home made biscuits in our room & small cakes in reception added to the welcome. There was a wide choice of food available at breakfast time. We would certainly consider staying here again if we were in the area.

Just what was needed
Brilliant stay at the Glenville. After waking up to a leak at home on the Sunday morning, there was no better place to get away to then here. Quality room, homemade biscuits, bath robes and everything was spotless and just what I needed to forget about the house worries! Will be back to this hotel without a doubt, also less than a 10 min stroll to the heart of everything. Only negative was me forgetting to get the other half 1 of the sheep you sell from the room, had a couple of digs already ha! Brilliant stay!!

Birthday Celebration
Our 2 night stay here was a nice ending to our weekend of birthday celebrations. A well situated and friendly Guesthouse, run by good hosts Pete and Jayne. We arrived to be offered an upgraded room, with a box of chocolates and a birthday card for me. Several nice touches - home made cakes and biscuits on offer, plus chocolates on the pillow. A well presented room with all necessities and a good choice of nicely cooked breakfasts. Another plus was the fact that it is an 'adults only' guesthouse.
