Decor needs approving
Cannot fault the location and the staff and food were excellent. However, I was disappointed with the room which of course is probably the most important aspect of any trip. The decor needs improving and the floorboards just squeeked all the time so I could hear the people above moving around. The worst thing however, was how hot the room was. 1st June and the heating is on???

Pleasant family room
Very friendly staff greeted us to this lovely, brilliantly positioned hotel, a few metres from the edge of Coniston Lake. Amazing views of the mountains from the dining room. Accommodation was very comfortable. However, the hotel was a little tired and in need of a make-over. Maybe that is already happening as there was some banging on the floor above (at respectable times in the daytime!). Lovely quiet gardens and only a short stroll into Coniston.

Waterhead is in a idylic setting, but it is tired. Carpets need replacing in rooms, fraying at edge
Carpets need replacing, fraying at edges. Overall cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, throw on bottom of bed covered with bits. Extra pillows in wardrobe, zip broke on bag could not get out.
Breeze block walls in corridor, not expected. Overall an idyllic setting, but a very tired hotel, would expect more for the money. Beautiful views. Instructions given by receptionist so well rehearsed sounded like a recording, no staff interaction other than when needed.

Very pleasant, comfortable in a fabulous setting
Nice bedrooms and bathrooms, lovely dining room for breakfast and dinner. Beautiful gardens down to the lake to enjoy a stroll and where we enjoyed morning coffee. Comfortable lounge to relax in after a long day's walking.

Great experience
This hotel had everything we wish in a hotel. The 4 poster room was comfortably set out with views of the old man of Coniston from one window and Coniston lake from the other. The food both for breakfast and dinner was of a very high calibre and the staff were excellent as well. Lorita & Chris were particularly friendly and the two young South Africans who had only just started soon joined in with the friendly banter as well. The hotel has it's own pier for the Coniston launch although we walked to the main one at the Bluebird café as it is only a few minutes walk anyway. The only slight down side to the visit was the poor Wi-Fi which seems quite common throughout all of the Lake district.
We will definitely return here when we comeback to see Bluebird when it returns to the Ruskin museum after restoration.
