Beware of parties
Have stayed here before on business, its a nice old building in a rural setting and I can see why it attracts Wedding parties. There was one taking place during our stay which seemed a bit of fun until the following day. As I was working in the area on Saturday night the only thing the hotel could really provide for me and my wife was the luxury of a few extra hours sleep on Sunday morning but the Wedding party revellery started again at 7am which included unacceptable levels of noise from TVs and muisc from god knows where. Our room was 110 which must be directly over the restaurant area and should carry a 'health warning' for guests as noise levels were unreasonable, culiminating in a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' at which point we just checked out. I dont condemn the party and clearly the hotel want the the party to be successful BUT they can make parties that effectively take over the hotel aware that other guests actually exist. We booked a superior double but the net curtains were tired and not that clean while the headboard was clearly made to take a king size bed but we got a standard double which isnt in keeping with other superior rooms we have stayed in. The latter is just attention to detail and the same lack of awareness allowed the Wedding party too much latitude. Bar service was slow and despite waiting 5 - 10 minutes for a drink the staff didnt ask who was next only to be overlooked in preference to serve the Wedding party (detect a theme?). It would help if the bar staff could smile a bit more even if its just for the guests.
On balance I would stay here again but probably during the week on business when the alarm is set for 5.30am and the stay becomes just part of my day to day function. At weekends I would always check what functions were taking place before booking again.

Looking tired
Staff very helpful and friendly, noise from adjacent rooms quite intrusive, could not move in the room without the floorboards creaking, also in the landing area that ran parallel to the bedrooms the creaking floorboards were very noisy, the fitness facilities comprised of running machine, recumbent bike and cross trainer!
Bathroom let down by a roller blind at the window that would not raise, no mention on their website that the hotel was on the flight path for the East Midlands airport.

Language Barrier and Service
While the Hotel is very nice and set in a pleasant garden. Its also a Wedding venue and this brings with it a noisy and crowded bar area and the need to fight to find a seat.
There was a language barrier between the restaurant staff and myself which resulted in not being able to order a Gaymers cider all I kept getting was a Guinness. Then it seems that the solution put to me was to go off to the bar and sort it out myself…what’s that about service?

Not 4 stars
Despite the hotel having a lovely setting our room was tucked away at the side looking onto other rooms and a car park: perhaps due to our booking through Laterooms. The facities were budget with the shower barely working and the pillows lumpy; the budget brown furnishings did not help. The rest of the hotel was dull with a lack of attention to detail. It seemed to be suffering from lack of investment.

Rather expensive for an average room, bathroom slightly dated, all clean. Good breakfast range. Probably best for an overnight business stay.
