Booked for our son n daughter in law night away.
had flowers n wine in room n was disappointed to find that we ordered a £30 bouquet of flowers n got a bunch from morrisons shop. This is not what we expected from a top hotel like this and feel slightly ripped off.
We booked a suite which we felt would be adequate for a family of 4.
Unfortunately the room was stifling hot, really unbearable-usually I would open the window but room was directly opposite the bar which meant we had to keep curtains drawn and as room was on ground floor, as a safety precaution we couldn't leave windows open all night. Also sofa bed was very small for 2 (aged 10,13) so we asked for another bed in room. This was delivered but no room to put it up which involved us moving furniture around and making up beds ourself, you can imagine the feeling in a stinking hot room. (Suite 2) We also had to ask for extra pillows, towels, duvet and water. After speaking to the ladies at the desk we were told we could move rooms the next day. The next am at desk they knew nothing about this arrangement but did finally move us to an apartment which was amazing. Great space, nice and cool!. Spa was lovely too and grounds of hotel were beautiful. Great location for Stratford. Would only not return/recommend due to heat in rooms-otherwise great.
Conveniently close to Stratford on Avon - about five minutes in the car - and in quiet country location.
Spa facilities very good, but in a separate nearby building.
Time to relax
My wife and I went to the Welcombe Hotel for one night.
The plan was to relax, use the spa and just wind down. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, they booked us into our room early and told us about the spa. The room was hidden away in the depths of the hotel. It was a little tired and could do with being updated, but it was clean and comfortable. We spent several hours in the spa area but were disappointed that the outdoor plunge pool was not available for use, and the showers by the sauna and steam rooms were not working. However, the rest of the facilities were lovely and we had a wonderful relaxing time. At 6am the following morning I was woken by what sounded like an electric drill but turned out to be another guest's shower. (I know because mine made a racket too!) That stopped and then another started so I was not best pleased but by then it was too late for anything to be done so I chalked it up to experience. I presume booking a discounted room means the least desirable rooms are allocated, and those people paying full price get the better rooms with quiet plumbing. We had a very nice breakfast sitting by a window in the dining room overlooking the gardens. It was delightful. All in all we had a very nice time and would be happy returning in the future if we were staying in a different room.
A Fantastic Place To Unwind
A beautiful hotel set amongst such peaceful grounds.
The reception staff were exceptional with their profressional caring touch. Going out there way to help & find ways to help us. We can't thank them enough for making us so welcome.
I and my husband really enjoyed our stay at Menzies Hotel.
A very nice building in a fantastic location, in a very nice park and 5 minutes drive to Stratford-upon-Avon.
As regarding the spa, that was like the cherry on the cake, with the open air vitality pool, jacuzzies (I counted three) and several saunas and therapy rooms. The best thing to do after hours of roaming visiting the Shakespeare homes and the picturesque streets of Stratford.
We'll be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Everything was excellent!
the building is magnificent and is in wonderful grounds to truly get away from it all.
the newer rooms are quite basic though, but comfortable
Beautiful setting, wonderful experience!
We stayed at Welcombe Hotel for a single night for my partner's birthday.
We had a junior suite room which was well equipped with a mix of old-world charm and new mod-cons, although perhaps could have done with a few touch-ups here and there. The spa is very relaxing with a large indoor pool (and a smaller open-roof pool), sauna rooms, treatment centre, gym, jacuzzi etc. The evening meal and breakfast were both excellent and the staff certainly made partner's birthday a very special one for her to remember!
Fantastic venue spoilt by poor Customer service
We arrived at 6.15 pm and then waited for 33 minutes before someone finally arrived to check us in.
There appeared to be just 1 person working on reception at this, usually the busiest time of day for checking in and when I asked if there was anyone else available to help us the answer was that no one could. There were other staff around but apparantly noone that could action check-in. During the process of check-in and despite securing my booking through late rooms.com the hotel had only allocated 1 room rather than the 2 I had booked. Luckily they did have another room available but this all added to the already lengthy check- in process.
On the plus side, the hotel is in a beautiful building, has wonderful spa facilities and is ideally located for visiting Stratford.
