Bowfield Hotel & Country Club

Everyone was very friendly from reception to dar and restaurant staff.

The room was fine, beds were comfortable. Only small issue was the tap in the bathroom leaked but not a major issue.

fantastic facilities, lovely welcoming and fiendly staff

love coming to The Bowfield, the staff and facilities are superb, particularly the pool which is a very good size, and also very peaceful.

The only difficulty I had with my stay was due to the fact it was a business trip, the wifi signal was so weak in the lounge and reception areas (and non existent in my room) that I couldn't get onto my company network, which did cause me a lot of problems. Would definitely recommend however and will be back - that's if I don't need the wifi. Thank you to all the staff for a very comfortable stay - and for the noisy neighbours in the room next door with the loud TV until the small hours, show some respect for other hotel guests.

Needs a makeover

The staff in the Bowfield were great, a real credit.

Sadly that's where the positives end. The rooms were very dated and in need of an overhaul including a lick of paint. The shower in my room (22) didn't fit the holder so you had to hold it whist showering- not ideal. The main dining room was also in need of some TLC; a shame really as the grounds are spectacular.

Magic Place

Had a great time, was spending the night here before my daughters wedding and was really impressed with the hotel and staff.

Sorry it was just for one night as I would have liked more time to enjoy the pool and beauty treatments. Rooms were bright and had lovely views. No problem recommending this hotel, did not fault it.

In need of investment!

I needed to stay in the locality and liked the idea of the gym and pool to break a long journey.

The hotel accommodation is in need of investment and a make over, thread bare and worn carpets, squeaking and bouncing floors (the one I stood on and the one above my head) and poor sound proofing were the main issues.

The kettle took an age to boil, I still can't understand why it took so long.

The movement of my fellow guest aloft pirouetting around their room from 6.20 am was followed by intermittent low flying aircraft descending into Glasgow airport. I conceded it was to be an early start. The bed and linen were good and both bedroom and bathroom immaculately clean. A supply of the usual mashings were discreetly placed in a draw under the multi channel TV. The gym was very well maintained with a good stock of equipment. The small pool (less than 15m I would say) was also clean and kept at a fair temperature. I was provided with a separate towel for use in the gym/shower.

Followed by a Scottish breakfast and buffet which was served in a timely fashion by a young guy who was polite and pleasantly talkative without being intrusive. For me the leisure facilities made it, otherwise it was an expensive night in comparison to other small hotels I have stayed in. The kettle and the aircraft were very frustrating. The bouncy floors added amusement and interest..but could be very annoying to some people.

Quiet, Relaxing Hotel

We were lucky to find this hotel at such short notice and I'm certainly glad we did.

We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady on arrival and once in our room were happy with the good size and standard of room and en-suite; just one thing, net curtains or similar would have been handy as we were on the ground floor and people in the spa area opposite or sitting outside could see straight into our room therefore we had to keep the curtains shut. We ate in the restaurant twice and both times we received very good service despite the young man being on his own and busy, the food was also very good and the two course or three course option excellent value. We went to the Games on one day and didn't get back to the hotel until approx. 11.30pm, we were both hungry as we couldn't find anywhere nearby that was open at that time of night and on our return to the hotel the Night Manager asked if he could get anything for us and he kindly arranged some sandwiches for us which was greatly appreciated. We didn't use the spa facilities but we did go to take a look at the Gym which I must say was very impressive. Departure was also dealt with quickly and again by another pleasant young lady. If the hotel hadn't of been fully booked we would have stayed another night and will stay again in the future.

Visit to Commonwealth Games

My friend found me this hotel for a very reasonable price, after I had exhausted all avenues in looking for accommodation for my visit to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games, (I have to confess I had not checked I refused to pay extortionately high prices to other hotels, knowing they were making the most of the games, to make their profit.

Our stay for two nights was pleasant, very welcoming staff at reception and very helpful. My only fault was to be found in the dining room. When we went for dinner at 8-00pm we were sat at our table for a good ten minutes whilst a female member of staff stood at another table holding a very long conversation with two diners, who had obviously finished their meal. My husband went to the bar thinking that may be the way we had to order dinner and drinks, at this point he was told someone would attend our table. Shortly after the female member of staff brought the menu another short wait before we placed our order, a very long wait before starters another long wait for plates to be cleared and main meal served. I should add at this point, the dining room wasn't overly full at the most only four tables were occupied. At the end of our main meal we sat and sat but no one cleared our table. Male and female members of staff were stood at the bar talking, could quite clearly see we had finished. After a lengthy wait plates were cleared and I tried to order a dessert. I was told that the kitchen was now closed, (it closed at 9-00pm) so nothing could be ordered. Bearing in mind we entered the dining room at 8-00pm it shows how long we had to wait for our meal, which by the way was very nice when we eventually got it. The hotel itself was very comfortable, could do with decor being brought up to date, leisure facilities were very good, lovely swimming pool, wish I had taken my costume with me. Weather could have been a little better, but hey it was Scotland. I would stay there again but may be find somwhere else to dine, where the staff are a bit more attentive to your need.
