wonderful place to stay for walkers (& others)

The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming, even though we arrived quite late.

The room was large and well appointed and the breakfast was lovely. The menu was broad ranging and the quality of the bacon and sausages was excellent. Just one quibble - the scrabble letters need replacing. The walks right from the hotel are fabulous.

Excellent hotel in a beautiful setting.

Stayed one night to celebrate my birthday.

Very comfortable room and excellent food. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return at some point in the future.

First Class in every way!

Just to say we are a retired couple with experience of some of the best hotels and restaurants in Europe and as an ex-quality assurance manager it would be hard to find fault, particularly with the food.

The AA rosette is not sufficient - the chef here deserves at least one Michelin star. Very well done!

Two night stay at Borrowdale Gates Hotel

Our first stay at this hotel and, hopefully, not our last.

This is a lovely, comfortable, country house hotel with a friendly atmosphere and staff that went out of their way to help and accommodate our needs. Our en-suite twin room was a good size, well decorated with matching bed accessories, plasma tv and the usual extras of tea, coffee, hairdryer etc. It had a separate sitting room with comfortable sofa and chair which would be very cosy in the winter with the fire. The sitting room had french doors onto a small terrace with table and chairs overlooking the gardens, fields and hills beyond. We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay and the food was sublime. Wild venison, duck, melt in the mouth beef, all locally sourced and cooked to perfection. Both the receptionist, Sue and the restaurant manager, Peter came from another hotel that we had stayed at many times and they have brought both their friendliness and professionalism with them. Treat yourself to some old fashioned personal service and a first class restaurant in beautiful surroundings. Well done Borrowdale Gates and look and learn large, corporate run chains.
