We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions, initially because it was close to family, but we now use it when we visit Portsmouth.
We always have a pleasant stay, though I think in general the hotel could do with a an inexpensive make over, especially the rooms. All the staff are very, are very courteous, and helpful. There is always a friendly welcome on arrival & departure. A value for money hotel, with good car parking. Please keep the standard up!
We thought that the hotel could do with a bit of a face lift
This hotel is well overdue for a complete refit.
The toilet would not flush and although we complained
immediately it was not seen to during our 2 day stay. The bathroom ceiling was mottled with mould and stains, the hall carpet had never seen a Hoover, the entry door was misaligned and had to be slammed very hard, 2 members of the Reception staff were unable to give us accurate directions to a funeral we were attending which was within half a mile. The 2 members of the staff we met at breakfast were however very sociable and helpful.
At first it was ok. Downhill after that.
I had read reviews, most of which were good, but one or two were quite negative.
I went with an open mind, and at first I though it was fine. The reception staff were very welcoming and efficient. The decor is very tired and needs some attention but it seemed clean enough. We found our room which again seemed fine. The bed was comfortable and clean. Well furnished. However bit by bit things began to unravel. The chairs in the room were not good, they felt like all the stuffing had been removed from the seat pads. Then I began to notice strains on the carpet. It had been vacuumed but there were well established strains. The the bathroom was clean on the surface but the grouting round the bath had black patches which I concluded were mould. The door was water damaged at the base. However it was adequate for one night, if you weren't fussy. The bed was comfy and we slept well. In the morning we visited the restaurant and oh dear. It was badly organized, understaffed, inefficient, dirty. The staff were
hopeless. There were no plates of an adequate size. The layout of the food was weird, the milk was in an urn which I assumed was for hot water. I can't imagine how they cleaned it. There were two flasks presumably for hot water.... both empty. I tried the times to get coffee, each cup was stone cold. One of only two tables available were cluttered with the previous occupants detritus. The seat was covered with a selection of obscure and worrying stains. I moved. The second table was similarly cluttered and dirty but at least I felt that my clothes were safe on the seat. I cleared and cleaned a space. On two occasions we were asked off some meal wee for it'sThe choc croissant was lovely, as was the mixture of strawberries and blueberries. But I felt I was taking a risk with my health just being there. The restaurant needed a good clean from end to end. The fixtures and fittings were dusty, The carpet stained and needed vacuuming. There is a clear need for a capable manager, with agood sense of order and well trained staff, a deep clean and probably redecoration.
The hotel itself although nicely laid out was a little tired looking in the decor, there were also a number of wear marks in the carpets throughout the hotel.
The first night was very warm so a quilt was too hot and there was no additional sheets to use. We did however mention this on the second day and we were supplied a sheet and a fan to use. Although individual choice we found the bed too firm. My wife, who is unable to drink normal breakfast tea or coffee was unable to get herbal teas that she is able to drink. Apparently even though they are offered on the menu they had "not been ordered for some time even though there were none in the hotel."
Stay if you have a sense of humour, avoid, if you cannot take a joke.
Half the lights in the room failed to function.
Wardrobe door would not open or close correctly. Door was diffullt to open with the card, had to be re-set every time it was used. Not enough tea/milk/sugar left by housekeeping after room was cleaned. Bathroom floor was slippery when wet
Bed was not made to an exceptable standard. Shower was hard to adjust and needs a non-slip mat. There is no lift to upper floors. This Hotel is part of the "Hungry-Horse" Pub Chain, part of the G.K empire. No air con, only in public areas, if it is working.
My mom and I were staying for two nights only, as a short getaway to the seaside.
Didnt have good sleep because of noise (wedding party) on Saturday night and loud neighbours on Sunday night hence didnt enjoy the stay. I think administration should take on account events happening at the function room before allocating rooms to guests just above the garden. We have received 10% refund as compensation but the point is we were just disappointed that we didnt have as good time as we thought we would.
Rooms not cleaned or beds made. No clean towels or toilet roll. Bath was surrounded with mould
Poor excuse of a hotel.
The shower was so hot you could not stand under it, after complaining, nothing was done even though we were told it would be. Couldnt have a bath as was surrounded with mould. After spending the day walking round Portsmouth and shopping, came home to unmade beds, our wet towels still on the floor and no toilet roll!. And, still a red hot shower.
Needed somewhere for an overnight stay before catching the Santander ferry at 8.00am the next morning.
Arrived late ish (9.30pm) and was greeted by friendly reception staff. We were shown to our room, which was clean and tidy. We were shown where the restaurant was and offered a meal. Very nice food.
All was ok for a place to just sleep and have a quiet beer however my bathroom was very dated and the shower curtain was covered in mould from top to bottom.
Did mention to the night porter when checking out but did not have time to complain as was running late for a early morning appointment. Luke
