This only positive aspect of our stay was the attentive, helpful receptionist.
Our room on the top floor was a shock. The carpet was dirty, walls grubby and an empty miniature bottle was rolling around inside tatty bedside cupboard. The bed looked like it had been made by a child- bottom sheet didn't even cover mattress and the flat foam pillows thrown on top. Half expected to find someone in residence already hiding in bathroom. It was awful, like a poor lodging house from the 50's. Wanted to turn around immediately and leave but had arrived in early hours and nowhere to go. Couldn't sleep as a motor next door clicked on and off all night. Had read other reviews on site before booking too so obviously some rooms must be better than others in that they are cleaned before guests arrive. It was one of the worst places I have ever stayed.
O.R. Residence & Hotel
Room was a little tired needed new carpet.
We have stayed her before and were looking forward to another visit.
The room we were given was not the one stated in the booking. We had booked a twin. This was a double with a single. No draped canopy. It was also very cold. Radiator was off. This was a cold January night. The radiator would not heat up. We asked for a move. After checking radiator we were given a double on second floor. This too was cold. 2 radiators but both switched off. We were asked to give it time to heat up. The radiators only partially heated. The bathroom radiator remained cold. We sat against the radiators till the room became warmer. We had the sound of water running through the radiators all night. Continental breakfast in the morning was fine. Staff pleasant. But nor sure I would stay here again in the winter time.
A place of curios
I've used this place before.
Has interesting Indian themed character. Can't fault the value for money. Only gripes (minor) the washbasin plug missing and a continental breakfast without croissants. Also watch for the very hot water
rooms were very nice.
Hotel was good distance for walking into town.
For what we paid, the hotel was adequate. It was spotless and basic but ok continental breakfast.
Cheap & Cheerful
We needed a low cost last minute booking and found the Raj Hotel.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly.
The furniture was just as we expected, Indian styles and each room individual. The furniture and style totally fitted the theme. I think it's unfair of other reviewers to criticise this.
However the standard of decor and bathrooms was dated and shabby.
The breakfast was extremely basic.
We booked this hotel online on the same night of our stay and were really pleased with the room...a deluxe two room suite for 55 ,what's not to like.
The Original Raj Hotel
Friendly staff, good location, lovely rooms.
