A very average "hotel" - with no electricity from 16.00 until way after bedtime.
tired accommodation in need of a make over
The setting of the hotel is lovely especially the lake and gardens.
However, inside the room was average. The bed really needs to be upgraded to king size and be better quality. IT was dated with wires running along skirtings. The bathroom had dust on the skirting and felt old and grotty.
The food was OK but nothing special. Would not recommend a stay here.
I enjoyed staying here
A large comfortable clean room, with a great view out over the lake.
Furnishings all very worn - rings on tables, spots on the carpets and cracks in the veneers on the furniture. Mattress at the end of its life but comfortable enough. Towels clean but thin and well used. Breakfast buffet good with good service
Nice hotel good rooms and breakfast is very good.
Great location however it's a bit short of atmosphere in the general areas so you tend to retreat to bedroom. It's closing down for good in Oct and will probably be sold to a developer for conversion to apartments. Shame as the area seriously lacks quality small hotels.
I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary as a surprise for my husband.
In particular the attraction of the guitar shape swimming pool, and history of previous owner Ian Gilan of Deep Purple, made this choice of venue appropriate and special for us, as my husband has a big musical connection with both performing, and being a senior executive in the music industry. The room we had overlooked the lake and golf course, it was magical. The food in the restaurant excellent, and the staff first class. Will definitely be returning before the hotel sadly closes in October.
Thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Stayed in Cherwell Room.
Comfortable, quiet room overlooking spring-fed lake with ducks and swans to watch. Private balcony outside French doors. Bathroom slightly awkward for someone on crutches as there are two steps up to bath and basin. Staff very friendly and obliging. Open fire in lounge an real treat.
I've stayed here on a number of occasions and never failed to be impressed by the quality of accommodation and service.
The rooms have always been clean and spacious, most seem to have a balcony. The breakfast is freshly prepared and generous and on the last occasion, due to a possible delay with taxis the manager ran me into Wallingford in the hotel's car...service beyond what i would have expected .
