Pleasant reception staff, good location
The hotel is situated in a great location but it is quite tatty.
The beds were comfy and clean but the net curtains were actually grey and disintegrating. The bathroom needed a deep clean with black grouting and a rusty radiator The room was quite small too, but it was a budget hotel so we were just grateful it was warm, dry and had plenty of hot water (shower was less than powerful) It could be great with a bit of a spruce-up though.
NOT A THREE STAR IN MY EYES BUT A NO STAR
Do they know how to use a vacuum cleaner on the thread bear carpets, and the wood work needed replacing in the bathroom because of wood rot which looked disgusting, and cracked tiles on the floor.
Not to mention the sellotape holding up the wallpaper in the breakfast area, and the bed was to big for the bedroom because when you opened the door to the bathroom it pushed the bed away.
Left covered in bites
On the face of it not too bad a hotel, "looked" clean if quite run down but, there was an infestation of some sort, don't know what it was ...
the end result was a dozen or more insect bites all over my body that were not there when I arrived.
Great location for Victoria Station - but very small and cramped rooms
Got a good deal for the 2 nights.
Great location - 10 mins from Victoria station but hotel really could do with a re-vamp - very tired, old and grubby. Very pleasant man on reception gave us the do's and don'ts and in particular this was a no smoking hotel - but when he allocated us a room on the 3rd floor - it stank of smoke. Being non smokers we said we were not staying in that room. He then located us to a room just off the reception area - it had a stale smell but we opened the large windows that faced the street in front. The room was so cramped and dated and the en-suite so tiny. Curtains were awful but thank goodness the bed and bedding was nice and clean. Breakfast was OK (just white bread on offer to toast), the cereals were limited and the danish's in the bread basket were stale. I don't think I would stay there again.
Had to buy some ear plugs - really noisy room .
Otherwise clean and tidy .breakfast served at the ridiculous time I 8pm so paid for it but didn't get it as like most people ha to go to work :-(
The New England was the Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in and I am in my mid-fifties and have stayed in a few hotels in my time.
It was dirty, and the staff were aloof, unfriendly and unhelpful. The bed cover was filthy and therefore, because I wouldnt use it, I was cold at night. There was a layer of dust and dirt on everything, everywhere, broken tiles in bathroom, filthy curtains and carpets. How hard can it be to run a vacuum cleaner and duster over everything?Rooms were tiny. Sheets and towels were clean, breakfast was fine. Cost was disgraceful for what we got. Never, ever again!!
Nice for the price
The room and bathroom were big compared to the rooms in Rome and Paris that we stayed in on the trip.
The staff were friendly but not knowledgeable on attractions or good places to eat. The guest book inside the room was a little out of date. So if you go for the first time to try to research places to see and eat.The breakfast was not the best(cereal, toast and a few pastrys)but was free and filling. Overall it was a great place to stay. It is close to restaurants and the tube(5 min walk).
not clean but acceptable
The main reasons we chose this hotel is that its location is good and that it has a lift.
Just a few minutes walk from Coach Station was very convenient. Restaurants and supermarkets are within 5 minutes' walk. Regarding the lift, you have to crimb up and down several steps anyway as the entrance to the lift is on the landing of the stairs. Our room wasn't clean, but acceptable considering the price. It didn't have an air conditioner but had a fan although it was extremely dirty.
Nice stay in London
New England Hotel London is a small hotel near Victoria station.
Located in a 4 floor bilding with elevator. Rooms are small but convenient. No air condition in rooms. Not much noise outside and the traffic is not bad. Simple breakfast, cereal and milk, juice, tea and toasts served in the basement dining room. Recommended to anyone looking for a unexpensive room in central London.
A week on and I'm struggling to remember this hotel!
It was a good location near Victoria.
24hr manned reception. It was ok!
