Excellent Friendly hotel
Excellent friendly hotel that manages to maintain a friendly homely feel despite its size.
A very enjoyable stay.
Hotel was in the centre for bars, restaurants and shopping.
Excellent room décor lovely and the beds were so comfortable. Breakfast help your self. Staff were all helpful and friendly. Tempus restaurant and bar had a good atmosphere and food was delicious. All Christmas decorations were up in the hotel lobby and bar fabulous. Would recommend this hotel to friends and family.
I took my best friend for a surprise 50th birthday treat .
From checking in to leaving the staff were so attentive and helpful . The room was excellent . Breakfast was a treat well worth £10 .. Definitely will be returning !.
The room 99 had a frying smell as we entered then a heavy baking smell .
Repeated calls to reception did nothing . So packed bags and went to reception and demanded different room , 241 = good . Pillows in all rooms small and mean actually cheap , so not so good . Breakfast quality only fair . Only smoked bacon too much fried haggis fried sausage meat . Why not someone making omelettes. The sausage bready , scrambled eggs were rubbery and swimming in water . Bread used for toast = cheapest sliced . Not worth the discounted £10 a head .
one night in edinburgh
The only negative thing was the heat in the room overnight.
However we found out in the morning, the windows could have been opened.
Will never know what it's like
Booked through late rooms, to arrive at hotel, to find our booking wasn't processed, and that they only had single rooms, not impressed with that.
Took the romance out of it, fortunately the guy on reception booked us into the Roxburgh at the end of George St, still an inconvenience though. Don't advertise rooms you don't have.
Lovely hotel ideally situated opposite the The dome and handy for all of the main shoips
I would definitely go back to this hotel the staff were very friendly and attentive and the location to the shops was ideal, having visited many of the other 5 star hotels in Edinburgh I would rate this one as one of the best.
I booked this hotel as part of a weekend break with my fiancee celebrating our engagement.
It's central location made our visit to Edinburgh a pleasure. The hotel is less than five minutes from the station and whilst we stayed they were busy erecting the Christmas village which is between the hotel and the station and I imagine will be gorgeous in a week or two. The hotel was clean and the staff well dressed if a little impersonal and unorganized. They had the room ready early so we were able to drop off our bags and go explore which was great. However they seemed unsure what we had booked and we were given different information twice. Whilst we were there a couple in another room were accidentally charged twice, whilst it was rectified quickly it just seemed a little unorganized. The room was large and clean and the bed amazing. Very comfortable and huge. The bathroom was a little smaller but the shower is powerful and we had plenty of high quality towels. We would definitely stay again at the price we paid. But definitely wouldn't have paid the recommended room value simply because it wasn't spectacular enough to warrant that cost. All in all a great weekend.
We enjoyed our stay but...
I think my wife and I may have got the short straw with our room.
It was small, as was the bed. Just as well we aren't big. The layout wasn't particularly functional eg the wardrobe had very limited hanging for longer items and getting the ironing board out was a bit awkward. TV remote was missing a battery. But it was otherwise fine.
