Good location, standard rooms
The rooms were pretty standard for this type of hotel. Clean and simple. The rooms are quite poorly lit which can be annoying when trying to get ready to go out.
Our rooms were located at the end of the corridor facing the river so it was pretty quiet throughout the night, though I would expect other rooms would have had less peaceful experiences due to large groups of lads who appeared to be causing nothing but trouble for the staff. Unfortunately this type of behaviour may be the reason that the reception has an effective bouncer sat by reception at night with a register of all hotel guests, you are then quizzed on who is staying in the room to ensure you are not bringing someone you have met in the club back to your room and leaving another guest locked out of the room! Understandable, but does make you feel like you are being accused when being quizzed about who you are with!
The hot food supplied for breakfast was really poor quality, very salty scrambled egg and rubbery sausage. The cold food had plenty of variety and the juice was nice. One major problem seemed to be the lack of clean glasses/mugs and cutlery available despite the breakfast area not being that full. We also picked some spoons up to eat yoghurt and all three spoons were still dirty with old food on them. Quite enough to put you off eating anything!! However, the breakfast is a cheap convenient add-on so didn't really matter, would have been much more disappointing if it had been a paid extra!
Overall the stay was fine and I would stay again. It is an ideal place for a cheap enough overnight stay, really close to the metro centre and reasonable for taxis (cost about £10 for a taxi in to newcastle).

Dear K Jones, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us, highlighting the good and detailing the opportunities to improve. I am delighted to know that you found our rooms to be adequate and location commendable. I regret that the breakfast served did not meet your liking. We will work on improving this and hope you can give us another chance to show what we have done in the future. Sincerely, Pam, IHG Care
