Cheap and Cheerful
To be honest the place is very run down, But what do you expect for £16 per night. I stayed as part of a group of lads on a night out in York, staying there was cheaper than staying in York center even with the price of taxis included.
The good news is there not in rush to kick you out in the morning, but ff you order drinks in the bar downstairs make sure you check your bill as prices vary depending on who serves you and how good there English is!!

Wish I hadn't stayed here
Things got off to a bad start when we arrived late on a Friday evening to be told that there were no rooms and our booking had not been received. I had booked 10 days in advance and enquired by telephone as to the latest I could arrive. Having been told to wait 10 minutes, an hour we were found a room for the night. The room quite frankly was totally inadequate. The bedding, carpet and curtains looked very tired, the towels provided were non matching hand towels only. Indeed the 2 curtains were different lengths. There was also no key for the room so that once we were in there someone had to remain inside or leave everything unprotected. There was a kettle but we had to ask for cups, tea and coffee. The shower in the bathroom needed a new head as the water went everywhere except for where it was wanted.
The next morning we were moved to the family room, the state of the decor was no better with paint peeling in the bathroom and mould on the grout and under the soap dish. We should have taken the towels from the other room as there was only one in this room and it was threadbare. The carpets also looked old and dirty.
The accommodation is above a restaurant and the noise from the customers is not conducive to getting a decent night's sleep.
There was no wifi available despite there being some advertised, there is no check in desk, nor even a lobby. Guests arrive via the restaurant and leave their keys in a box by the door on leaving.
The accommodation needs total refurbishment and the owners need to give a lot of thought about presentation for this to reach anything like an adequate standard.
I would not under any circumstances stay here again. The question what is this accommodation suitable for can only be answered with 'nothing' as it currently stands
