3Self Classified Hotel Ratings explained
Grandview Road, Hope Cove, , Kingsbridge, TQ7 3HE
The Lantern Lodge Hotel is small privately run hotel situated on the cliff top right next to the South Devon Coastal path and overlooking the secluded fishing village of Hope Cove with its Devon thatch cottages, clean, sandy and safe beaches. Near by are the old traditional towns of Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Dartmouth all offering their own individual character and all offering that little extra to make your stay in the South Hams that extra special and unique. Also close by are Thurlestone, Bigbury and Dartmouth golf courses all with stunning views of the area and fantastic and challenging course’s. The Lantern Lodge Hotel has its own special extra’s to offer including an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, double, twin and four poster rooms all with en-suite facilities and some with sea views. 9 hole putting green and plenty of car parking. There is a restaurant where breakfast and dinner is served. Next to the restaurant is a well stocked bar and a extensive wine list offering wines from all around the world. The hotel is so named after its attractive leafily-clad 'Lantern window.' Local folklore would have us believe that this type of window was specially designed to hold and display an illuminated lantern which could be seen from all three aspects far out to sea, acting as a beacon to safely guide home all their boats. Nowadays, our Lantern window serves very much the same purpose in welcoming back our contented guests year after year.

Lovely views.
This hotel is in a great location which I think reflects the prices being charged.
The room was ok but the walls seemed to be very thin to the extent that you could clearly hear other guests talking next door & the sound of other televisions etc which became very distracting. It didn't help that others couldn't shut a door without slamming it very hard! It was a shame there wasn't better soundproofing as this was otherwise a very peaceful & pleasant location. Breakfast very good albeit restricted to a fixed one hour period.

A lovely relaxing break!
We stayed over the Bank Holiday period for B & B, the hotel is situated in a beautiful spot. It is of a traditional style, and is very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast and super efficient staff providing full table service. This was a very late booking so we didn't get a sea view room, which would have been the icing on the cake! We very much appreciated the car park especially as it was
Hope Cove's 40th festival weekend.

Good old fashioned service
Hotel in a wonderful setting, very relaxed atmosphere and the breakfast waitresses were so efficient and charming. We had dinner on the first night and it was so nice to have a proper linen napkin. Didn't have time to use the swimming pool but it looked very inviting. We would definitely stay here again and also recommend it to any of our friends or family.

Lantern Lodge, Hope Cove
My wife and I stayed on a B&B basis for 4 nights in August 2013. It is a lovely hotel and is in a very nice position situated on the SW coast path overlooking the small village of Hope Cove. We noted that many guests were repeat visitors and that they had dinner there as well, although we ate at the Hope & Anchor down the hill in the village. I understand that the hotel has been under the same management for many years; the staff were very efficient but also friendly. All in all I would strongly recommend the hotel particularly for couples.
NB Driving to Hope Cove requires caution because of the single track lanes joining the village to the main road.
