Bad service

I have stayed here several times so I knew the rooms are fine with plenty of space.

I decided late in the evening to have a drink at the bar but due to the amount of work I had on knew this would be later so I went down to ask the bar man what time the finished serving, to which I was told 11pm. At 10.50pm after finishing off my work I walked into the bar to find him cashing up, I asked for a drink and was told we are shut now, I questioned this as I had only an hour before come down to ask the question, he just looked at me with a blank expression and said the bar upstairs is open but I would have to go to reception to get someone to serve me .

I proceeded up to reception where there was no member of staff on just a gentleman wandering about, he then went behind the counter and explained he was the manager, I asked him if there was someone who could serve me in the bar, he told me to go down stairs, I explained that it was shut to which he replied "I'm fed up of this he's supposed to serve till 11pm" then said if I came back in 5 minutes the night porter would be here and would get me a drink from the upstairs bar. I decided to wait outside for 5 minutes and when I returned the manager, receptionist and night porter were all at reception desk, I asked if someone could now get me a drink and was met by a chorus of "its shut !" I said to the manager "you have just told me to come back in 5 minutes and the night porter would get me a drink" I was shocked by the lack of interest he had in this statement and just shrugged, said again its shut and went back to his conversation . Needless to say I was less than impressed with the service of the staff and then unbelievably the manager, not sure what they think is expectable from a hotel but this in my opinion is not .

if you are looking to stay somewhere that is cheap but adequate then this is fine but don't expect any assistance from the staff !

You get what you pay for, well located

Hotel was very cheap but you do get what you pay for and we weren't expecting the Ritz.

All a bit run down with half the lightbulbs in the room not working and a tap that was almost impossible to turn off, but as we were just sleeping there for one night it wasn't a problem. The sheets were also pretty rough and you could see the mattress pattern through the bottom sheet it was that thin. Tea and coffee provided but nothing else so make sure you bring your own soap / toiletries, but again for the price wasn't expecting too much. Nice big towels and a powerful shower. Our room was next to the road and was pretty noisy so try and request one on the other side if you can. Didn't try the food but there is a lovely pub called The Bell just down the road which was great!

It is cheap and cheerful.

Clean and tidy but tired in its look. Everything was functional but the place needs updating for bathrooms, carers. Air conditioning would be useful. As the room was very hot and the sound of the traffic was too much with the window open.

Convenience on a Budget

I was limited by budget, but have to say that I felt I got real value for money.

The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Be aware though that Wednesday night is the English chef's night off and so the only food available is an Indian buffet. This was okay, but you have to wait for the dishes being refilled, the advantage being that the food was fresh.

Worst hotel I have stayed at

We were given a room with no working lights then a room with no working TV, then a room with with 2 single beds that were very uncomfortable.

Worst place to stay in Walsall

Metro Inns Walsall

Bathroom had chipped tiles; shower had hardly any water coming out.

Decor was very dated.
