The George Inn
I've stayed at 'The George Inn' a few times now.
The room is clean and lovely with comfortable beds. Compliments must go to the chef though as I've had superb meal after superb meal. Looking forward to my next stay.
A quirky friendly Inn
There were a few problems when we got there, the plumbing in old coaching inns like this can be temperamental and we had to move rooms because of it.
The rooms however are absolutely individual in decoration, size and character and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. The staff are, without doubt, the friendliest we have come across, and special mentions go to Richard (Head Chef) Laura (Manager supreme!) Ellie, Mat, Tim and Adrian - bar staff extraordinaire. The owner Gordon is a nice chap who was tackling the plumbing issue when we left on Monday morning ; nice to see an owner who doesn't mind rolling up his sleeves and getting down to the nitty gritty. We will go back, we plan on taking our daughter and a friend next year - we need two rooms Gordon!
The George Inn
Beautiful building which is clearly being upgraded.
Some interesting artistic touches added charm. However we arrived early and were not made to feel particularly welcome. We returned once our room was prepared but despite the wait the carpet was not hoovered and the room smelt musky. This sensitised us to other niggling issues - no milk in the room, the bedside lamps did not work, no shower (although the bath was a spa bath!), really noisy toilet, no soft seating in the room.
Having said this the bed was comfortable and the breakfast good. Compared to some of the hotels we have stayed in (in London) this was still very good value.
