1 day stop over
This is a poor hotel.
Car parking is for just 3 cars and it was challenging to get into the entrance without hitting the rock. No evening meal was available. The fire door at the top of the stairs opened outwards so you had to move back a step in orde to get passed and the top railing to hold on was lose. Sadly I do not recommend anyone to stay here.
we wanted somewhere to sleep, wash and have breakfast, and thats what we had.
Food was great, staff great, Porlock very nice. Yes I will be going back.
Lovely friendly hotel, warm welcome, great breakfast, generally clean, very good value for money.
Only downside limited parking although there is some a short walk away.
I stayed in the hotel during a trip to Butlins for the darts.
We wanted something close to Minehead, that had a decent restaurant and a bar. We hit the bullseye here. I agree with the other reviews that the rooms are dated, they are cold, but swiftly heat up once the electric fires are on. My shower room whilst a little shabby decoratively but the electric shower pumped out hot water, what more do you want from a shower. We had an evening meal (Pork casserole £7.50 and a Caribbean style beef dish that was fantastic £12.50) the quality was excellent and I can't agree with the reviews that say the food is expensive, it's not and it is high quality. The breakfast was excellent too. Local ingredients, cooked fresh to order, a great start to a long day at the darts. The bar was open when we got back to the hotel at 10.30 and we even managed to get a couple of rounds of sandwiches-great hospitality. Porlock is a small but charming Somerset village that would make a great base for exploring Somerset and Devon (6 miles to the Devon border) or for a day at the darts. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Warm, clean & tidy.
Staff are very friendly and good with kids
Would not stay here again, good location but very run down.
The room was cold, when we asked about heat the manager came & touched the radiator & informed us the heating was on a timer so could not be advanced, so we had to stay cold, the radiator came on next morning from 7.45 but was cold again by 8.30.
The 3 light chandelier in the bedroom had 1 bulb working, NO heat in bathroom at all not even a heated towel rail (plenty of hot water) Kippers on breakfast menu but there wasn't any. Asked on our first morning if we had received e-mail stating 3 nights for price of 2 was only valid if you ate in restaurant 1 night, (we had not received an e-mail) we didn't wish to eat in restaurant, we had paid £184 for 3 nights which was much more than it was worth
they were desperate for people to eat in their restaurant, we couldn't believe it when we were told the proper price for bed & breakfast was £90 per night, NO WAY would it be worth that sort of money. The 2nd & 3rd night of our stay we are sure we were the only two residents. We had to borrow hot water bottles from our son to keep us warm in this establishment.
Our second stay at this hotel.
The food was very good both for breakfast and the evening meal. Our evening meal( we ate in the evening twice) was excellent though not cheap. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is parking at the back of the hotel in a small courtyard....but not much room!. We will certainly stay here again.
We arrived and were shown to a room without any heating on.
It was very cold but soon warmed up after we put the electric fire on. Comfy, clean bed (mouldy pot pourri). New shower room but no form of heating in there, so a bit chilly after your shower. A stipualtion of our stay was to eat there on one of the evenings. This we were more than happy to do but the food was poor and over priced. My husband had the lobster and prawn gratin (£15.50), which consisted of a couple of nuggets of chewy white 'lobster', with tough prawns. He left most of it. We complained but were told that the cook never got complaints, only compliments. My steak was ok but at £14.95, again over priced for what I got. The cooked breakfast was fine on the first morning but the bacon was rancid on the second. We paid the bill and left. This hotel is on the market, so I feel the owner (a very polite, friendly lady) is just doing her best before it's sold.
The room was comfortable but a bit jaded.
The toilet got blocked and I had to unblock it, yuck. Also found a spent crisp packet behind the bedside cabinet. Out room/bathroom lights went out one evening and although I told the guy serving in the restaurant ( he was the only member of staff we were aware of) nothing was done until we mentioned it to the one of the ladies running the show in the morning. Food was great though.
great service friendly helpful staff clean spacious good food
