Our second stay at this hotel. The food was very good both for breakfast and the evening meal. Our evening meal( we ate in the evening twice) was excellent though not cheap! The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is parking at the back of the hotel in a small courtyard....but not much room!! We will certainly stay here again.

Disappointing
We arrived and were shown to a room without any heating on. It was very cold but soon warmed up after we put the electric fire on. Comfy, clean bed (mouldy pot pourri). New shower room but no form of heating in there, so a bit chilly after your shower. A stipualtion of our stay was to eat there on one of the evenings. This we were more than happy to do but the food was poor and over priced. My husband had the lobster and prawn gratin (£15.50), which consisted of a couple of nuggets of chewy white 'lobster', with tough prawns. He left most of it. We complained but were told that the cook never got complaints, only compliments! My steak was ok but at £14.95, again over priced for what I got. The cooked breakfast was fine on the first morning but the bacon was rancid on the second. We paid the bill and left. This hotel is on the market, so I feel the owner (a very polite, friendly lady) is just doing her best before it's sold.

Hello Mr and Mrs Hardy. Thank you for your review about your stay with us two weeks ago. We take in guests from 2pm -10pm, and the heating is on a timer as is most households. As you said your room had an electric fire on the wall. I put this on for you and you promptly went out!. The statement about the fact that the chef only ever got compliments is a bit OTT, you cannot please all the people all the time, and of course if complaints are made, they are dealt with in a better way than you say the waiter did of yours. I do breakfast service every day, and if I had seen bacon left, I would have enquired if there was a problem with it, but no, again nothing is said to the human working it all has to go onto the internett. The term for this is as I understand 'KEYBOARD SABOTAGE'......Very apt. As I say, thank you for your observations, I cant think for the life of me, why the hotelier would even consider selling the hotel, when we get such very nice guests.

Pleasant room
The room was comfortable but a bit jaded. The toilet got blocked and I had to unblock it, yuck. Also found a spent crisp packet behind the bedside cabinet.
Out room/bathroom lights went out one evening and although I told the guy serving in the restaurant ( he was the only member of staff we were aware of) nothing was done until we mentioned it to the one of the ladies running the show in the morning.
Food was great though.

Hello Mr and Mrs Stevens, Many thanks for your review, how very nice of you to take the time. So sorry about the crisp packet behind the cabinet, had you fallen on the floor? The blocked toilet was not for you to deal with, When I cleaned the room the morning before you arrived, it was working perfectly, I could have helped you. The waiter did not remember anyone mentioning the lights going out, the owner is the chef, so if she had been made aware of the situation, by the waiter, she would have sorted it out for you. Never mind, when we met in the morning, and you so politly said to me 'Huh! see you did'nt do anything about the lights last night then!' News to me, but I went upstairs and put the fuse switch back into position, and all was well I am pleased to say.

Location location location
Cute village, beautiful nature, and a hundreds year old historic building set the scene. As with any British accommodation, it is very pricy. The LateRooms 'special' offer made it affordable-ish. Breakfast was mediocre. Very friendly and helpful staff do make for a relaxed stay.

hotel room
The hotel is generally a bit tired and needs some revamping. Our twin bedded room was clean and spacious and was at front of hotel. The bathroom was very tired and needed complete refurbishment ie chips in bath and some wallpaper peeling etc
However, we had some excellent evening meals and wine in hotel which was very relaxing and the staff were very helpful and friendly. It was good value for money, it is located in the lovely historic village of Porlock and is a great base for beautiful coastal walks.
