No Lights, Not Hot Water, No Organisation AVOID

There is nothing that I can really compliment this hotel on, but loads to complain about, this was a two night stay for me and a friend staying in a twin room.

On arrival at the hotel all seems normal and positive as we were told we were going to be staying in one of the refurbished rooms (414) The first negative is that we were told we could not have two key cards, despite the fact we were staying in a twin and wishing to come and go as we pleased and not be dependent on the other, we were told it was not hotel policy. This would have a huge impact later on during the stay, we were however told if we were coming in and out the hotel a different times that reception staff could give us/let us into the room with a master key.

On arrival on the fourth floor the carpets were disgusting, covered in white paint and generally dirty, once we arrived in room 414 the lights were not working in the bedroom, so pitch black, I went down to reception, reported the fault, and a member off staff came with me to see if they could fix the problem, they could not. We were then moved to room 415, on first judgement this seemed to be ok, we had working lights, but this basic need/relief was soon to be short lived.

After going out for the evening I returned to the hotel and required letting into my room as my friend had the key and was still out, this turned into a total nightmare, I must have went up and down from the room to reception with a member of the night time staff trying to open the door with a key card no less than five times. It took over an hour to get into the room and was an exhausting incident to be dealing with in the early hours of the morning.

When I finally got into the room I just wanted a shower and bed, it was then we discovered that our new room (415) had not hot water. Off to reception I went again, complained; an attempt to reset the boiler was made but failed.

The following morning I went down to reception and talked to the hotel manager, went over all the above problems and expressed my poor experience so far received. He decided to move us into a new room (141) our third room in less than 24 hours. He also said he would do ‘something about the bill’ After we had packed up and moved down to this room it was clear it was in a poor state, very old and dated, however we had our basic need of both lighting and hot water, so even this old and somewhat shabby room was a welcomed relief for events so far.

After un-packed I returned to reception to see exactly what was being done about the bill, I was refunded 50% of the first nights rate, not even £30, I did express that I was not happy with this, so he then threw in a compliment breakfast for the following day, when I asked what time it started I was told 7am.

We soon discovered a fault with the third room (141) in the respect that the toilet would sometimes flush and sometimes not.

By the following day we just wanted to escape this hotel from hell, packed early and went down for breakfast at 7am, were we discovered the dining room was all locked up, a rather miserable looking member of staff told us it would not open until 8am as it was bank holiday, this was the nail in the coffin and we got out as fast as we could. Overall I cannot express enough how much you should avoid this hotel, I think all the above speaks for itself, however if you’re not fussed about lighting and hot water, then this hotel is perfect!

Was OK

having read the previous reviews I stayed with some trepidation but it was ok and at £40 was reasonable value for money.

bedrooms need some work and the lighting was limited but for a overnight it ticked the box

Unfortunate stay.

Ok, so the hotel did only cost £40 as I opted for a single room.

Single indeed. You couldn't swing a cat in the little wardrobe room I was given. The bathroom was also tiny, with mould. Upon showering that night the shower leaked and practically flooded the bathroom, when I called down to reception nobody answered. I had to go find a woman who said she would send the handy man, needless to say he didn't turn up. The next morning I had to take another shower before the days events and again it flooded everywhere. I had to use my own clothes to mop up the water. It wasn't until I was about to leave someone actually turned up and demanded to come in my room. I has to send them away for a minute as I was getting changed. Not a pleasant experience at all. I'm sad because it looked beautiful in the website.

The photos and price are deceiving!! Stay somewhere else

The area of Birmingham this hotel is in is horrible, dirty, litter everywhere and scary to walk at night.

The hotel room was cheap on last minute but the hotel itself was nasty. Very out dated.

Room was cold. Windows let a draft in and made noises when the wind blew. Shower leaked and flooded bathroom. When we told the hotel reception they just said "yeh, was it from the shower tray?" (must be a common problem)

The car park was in a disused warehouse type thing next door that had homeless people sleeping in it and rubbish everywhere but was free and locked at night. Avoid this place unless your on a stag/hen party and just want somewhere cheap and you know you'll be too drunk to care.

Basic but get what you pay for

Basic small room, nothing like the pictures you see online.

The entrance is posh n all but the rooms are quite shabby. Cheap tho. Good for a night out if you just want somewhere to get ready n get drunk but wouldnt recommend for couples/families who want a relaxing night.

The whole experience

Car park was rubbish, dirty, not secure didn't think my car would make it through the night.

the staff was not that helpful. couldn't get any food in the hotel. rooms dirty and barely functional, tv remote for the wrong tv. overall never go there again. would rather sleep in my car.

not impressed

so apparently this hotel is being worked on.

still no excuse for changing my room 3 times and every time the room is dirty, the bathroom is filthy and holes in the walls in every room. If you want a good price and a clean room go to another hotel.
