Last minute break
Hotel is not the ritz but this is not a complaint, it is what it is, over 600 years old.
We loved the unspoilt ambience, to kit a building like r his with modern furniture would ruin it. The staff were really good the food excellent and the breakfast was incredibly good, can't fault it. The bed was very comfortable and the views from the room outstanding. The only thing that let the room down was a lack of shower my partner has joint problems so she wasn't able to get into the bath
All in all we really enjoyed it.
A beautifully located hotel with history very much part of its character.
The quality of accommodation does not justify the price nor does the poor quality and presentation of breakfast. An en suite room it may have been, but the shower unit had no doors or curtain to prevent water going everywhere. The shower could only be used hand held and very restricted.
OK for People with dogs
Allocated room was disgraceful - obviously for guests with dogs - refused it and got another room Meal booked for 7.00pm, actually got it at 8.15 pm Staff very pleasant and tried really hard,- owner/senior manager too laid back to care Bought staff a drink with cash - appeared on my checkout bill !!.
Very tired old place
A true and honest account.
After arriving at the hotel from Aberdeen (6 hour drive), I was told to wait 15 mins because a massive inrush of cyclist had arrived and wanted feeding.
When I did try to check in I was told to wait for a further 15 mins becasue the room was not ready (Even though it states a 12:00PM check-in). Once in my room I required a quick shower as I had a wedding at Yorebridge house, only to find the room never had a shower only a bath...must be a yorkshire thing. The room cleanlinse leads a lot to be desired, however I choose this hotel maintly because of the location to the wedding venue and cost...you get what you pay for. However in my case I feel I was a little short changed. I did not order food so cant really comment their however the portions looked generous. The young blonde bar lady was cute ;) x , however the old dottering Bar manager was on a different planet...speed up please!
Fantastic customer service
We were held up and didn't arrive until 11.30 at night, called them for directions and William cooked us a hot meal - amazing start to our stay.
Jonathan gave us the most warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble for him - his priority was that the guest was happy and well looked after. We would definitely love to stay here again when in the Yorkshire countryside. The location was fab and only about a 40 minute drive to the Cumbrian mountains which was stunning.
Lovely people Jonathan, William and the young lady who worked behind the bar.
They made the stay better. Hotel is budget don't expect 5 star. The area is beautiful and a stones throw from Hawes which is very interesting. I would stay again.
Good value for money good honest pub food excellent staff
an experience not to be repeated
In a beautiful village and a beautiful setting, this hotel could have been perfect, instead, it is probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
we appreciate it was built in the 15th century and pleasantly quirky. The room was reasonably clean but everything was so shabby and the four poster was hardly big enough for two people (and we are small)
The worst thing by far however was the food - everything tasteless and greasy, scampi served without even a slice of lemon. For me what really clinched the awfulness were the breakfasts - on the first day, we ordered boiled eggs and the friendly waitress put mine down with the comment "he apologizes about the egg" -it had exploded in the pan and he still served it. next days omelette was even worse, surely made in an omelette- maker in a microwave, it was like egg "jelly". I couldnt even force myself to taste it. the chef should be sacked and the whole place given a make-over.
The hotel is dirty and needs a coat of paint.
The room was small without a chair. I know the pub is 600 years old but the decor could be modernised. The food was good and the two young girls were excellent hosts.
Don't believe the hype
Majority of reviews i've read suggest this is a poor establishment.
This was not our experience. Service was prompt, room was clean, suitably appointed, and a very comfortable bed. All in the bar who had food seemed happy with it, our breakfast was good. I suspect people are booking with unrealistic expectations. It's almost 600yrs old, it's not going to be like staying in a modern Hilton. For £35 per person with breakfast we were more than satisfied.
