Reviews - The Bear Inn

3AA Assessed Inn Ratings explained
The Bear Inn, Hodnet, , Market Drayton, TF9 3NH
Located conviniently in the triangle between Market Drayton, Whitchurch and Shrewsbury only minutes from the A41 and the A49 and 20 minutes from the M6. We are a small pub nestled in the historic Shropshire countryside, as well as a traditional bar with roaring log fires, we have a restaurant boasting an inspiring menu with all ingredients sourced locally and prepared in-house. Upstairs there are 7 newly-refurbished guest bedrooms and a striking grand 16th century hall, ideal for a variety of funtions. The bedrooms all contain their own coffee/tea making facilities as well as wall-mounted flat screen TVs with freeview and DVD player built-in. Guests can unwind in 'The Lounge' with its own fire and complimentary newspapers and have a drink (or two) from the bar. Room prices include breakfast, we offer a full English breakfast or cereals. There is also free WI-FI. The building has many enchanting secrets such as the former Bear Pit with secret passageways leading to the village church and Hodnet Hall. Hodnet derives from the ancient Welsh phrase ‘hawdd nant’ meaning ‘pleasant valley’ and the surrounding countryside reflects this magnificently. The Bear provides an ideal homely base to explore these magical settings with Hodnet Gardens located only accross the road, Hawkstone Hall and its Follies a 5 minute drive away. For the more active there are several renowned golf courses nearby, as well as The Midlands Shooting grounds.

Excellent Experience
Just very good in all areas. Would go out of my way to stay there again. I like staying in an Inn in the middle of the countryside. Good food and beer and basic but good accommodation.

Bed and Breakfast
I was really impressed with the friendliness and welcome at the Bear. Breakfast was wonderful and served by a very attentive young man, and the room was really comfortable. It felt like home from home. My evening meal was nothing special and it would have been nice, as a single woman, not to have to order everything from the bar. However I retired up to the bedroom with a large glass of wine and slept very soundly. Didnt see the ghost but the hotel had lots of atmosphere.

No Ghost, but Lovely Breakfast.
Sadly, although regaled with many tales we saw not a single GHOST! However, the breakfast was a rare pleasure for a Full English type like myself. Cooked and served by a very nice gentleman by the name of Garry. Thank you Garry! The landlady, staff and locals were all friendly and the hotel a delight to return to of an evening. Both my wife and myself would recommend a stay at this lovely old pub to anyone.Thank you. John and Gloria Scott.
