I've got to say that was a very unpleasant stay.
I booked a double room & was given one at the front of the building. The Windows were a poor fit & didn't shut properly which meant the room was extremely noisy (on a busy road with food places ) and was cold. The room smelled dreadful (the drains I think) plus waste water pipes from other rooms ran inside the room which added to the noise. There was no hot water in the taps so washing was unpleasant. The shower door didn't close so the floor flooded. There was bottled water in the room but it was a glass bottle with a plug lid that was clearly refilled. The general state if the hotel was awful. Lots of evidence of leaks (above my bed, in the hallways & so bad on the stairs the ceiling had come down). There was a notice at the apologising for works going on but there was nothing in progress. It was a shocking place & shouldn't really be offering its rooms until they sort it all out. Mould seemed a big problem too. I will never ever stay there again or recommend the place. It spoils what should have been a great weekend.
The hotel is very tired and looks closed.
The pub in front of the hotel has closed. Once we had rattled the entrance door (no bell) the manager couldn't have been more helpful. The hotel is under renovation and it is needed with parts of the ceiling down and windows patched. The room was small but functional and for a one night stopover it sufficed. Breakfast was limited but good. It is about half the price of other hotels on this very busy weekend. Overall the staff were friendly, the bed was comfy and clean, it's just the decor that could do with updating.
Very basic, noisy and in need of improvement!
We stayed here for one night.
Our room was very basic and not in a good condition. There are no lifts and we had to drag our luggage up to the second floor. Despite the clean linen, the bed was creaky and uncomfortable. The shower door did not close properly when shut and there was a awful smell coming from the sink. The curtains do not block out any light and the location is very noisy, you can hear buses at all hours of the night. The hotel is currently being renovated and we were not aware of this during our booking. An expensive nights stay for a poor quality hotel.
The Chippenham Hotel
Wonderfully friendly staff, willing to give great recommendations of places, the best transport links and pubs.
Great little place not too expensive and a decent breakfast.
I don't know where to begin.
The outside of the building was boarded up. We had to enter the property through what I can only describe as a building site entrance (without the safety) then led into a small room. The first thing that struck me was the smell of damp and cigarettes. What a dirty place it was. As we were told where the room was we went up two flights of stairs which had various stains on the carpet ( where there was one). We then looked up to find a huge hole in the ceiling exposing the lathe and plaster and floorboards above. The windows were rotten and the paintwork had at least an inch of fur/dust. We then got to the room. The bed was disgusting. There were brown stains all over the base and the walls were also brown in places. The shower was mouldy as was the toilet and sink. Having no choice and no more money we had to stay. We went out and spent money on bleach and cloths and some more bedding. I have bites all over my body and have had very little sleep. We obviously did not have breakfast and left the place early morning and came back very late at night. The area was very worrying at that time of night. It is in a very rough part of Maida Vale. The pub that was advertised below has not been open for years by the looks of things. I have photos of all of the above should you wish to see them. Please please do not recommend this hotel to anyone!!!
Not good value for money
This hotel is not worth the money.
The hotel is in a state of disrepair. The bathroom is old, dirty and worn out. There are massive stains on the ceilings. The beds were all of a very cheap quality very springy and noisy. Plus there is constant noise from outdoors. The entrance door and reception are simply disgraceful. Don't waste your money here. When I entered the hotel, I felt as though I entered a Shanty Town.
Dirty and dilapidated
I lifted the toilet lid and the seat fell off the toilet.
My bathroom smelled strongly of stale, concentrated urine - like a public toilet. My shower head did not seal to the hose properly so all the water just ran down the outside of the hose. I removed the head and hosed myself. There is no way the management would not be aware of these issues. I complained to the receptionist and was told I could use a communal bathroom. My bedroom carpet was dirty and there were bits of dirt and crumbs all over it so it obviously hadn't been vacuumed. The sink was too small to use and the taps barely worked (the push ones you see in public toilets and they would only stay on for a couple of seconds). At least the bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast wasn't available until 8:15 am. My opinion is that there is a real lack of effort being put into running this hotel and I was glad to leave. I would not recommend it. There were also big damp patches on the ceiling and a large hole in the wall where a waste pipe from a room upstairs went in.
Not the best place to stay in London
On the plus side the chap on reception was really helpful and the sheets & towels were clean.
But that's the only good bit. This used to be a pub with rooms, but it looks like the pub shut down and they decided to continue renting the upstairs rooms by asking guests to use a temporary entrance at the side of the premises. Water coming through ceiling, non working kettle, electric shower with tepid water. Unable to comment on Breakfast as the room was locked when i left at 7am. For £75 I had expected something better.
Just the job.
Only a 10 minute walk from Royal Oak tube station, so pretty handy for getting about.
Decent sized room for four of us with our own toilet and shower. The room was at the front of the hotel so we got a bit of noise coming from the street below but that tended to dissipate around 10/11ish. Pretty decent breakfast in the morning with nice pastries. All in all, a pleasant stay and ideal for our visit.
Cheaper but not cheerful
This hotel is just poor rooms over a pub, basic facilities I can cope with but hair in your shower and basic cleanliness still needs to be done, sign in lobby states undergoing refurbishment in which decade was it posted .
Ashtrays in room when was smoking banned .
Used late rooms to book, problems with booking should maybe have heeded a warning sign
Hotel itself wouldn't take card machine as Internet broken told to go cash machine outside of pub then we're not willing to provide receipt.
