Such a shame
I feel rather guilty writing to criticise this accommodation because, in general terms, it’s hard to fault.
It's reasonably priced, well situated for the town centre, it’s clean and tidy, the room in which I stayed was spacious and comfortable and the staff member who lived on site, and who assisted me, was so obliging and helpful that it seems almost wrong to complain, but complain I must.
I arrived at 3.00PM and wished to take a shower before going out for the evening, but when I went to turn the shower on there was no power. I reported this to the aforementioned staff member who tried to rectify the problem but couldn't so she rang the owner. She told me the hotel/guesthouse was fully booked, and as such she couldn't move me to another room, but because of my need to shower and to go out she kindly offered the facilities in her room which I gratefully accepted. NB: Fortunately the en-suite toilet and sink in my room were in working order. After showering I was informed that I could use the communal bathrooms [on the upper floors] if I wished to shower in the morning, and as recompense for this inconvenience, the owners had offered a free drink from the bar.
I understand that things like this can happen but what irritates me is this...I reported this problem at 4.00PM and nothing at all was done about it. I went out for the evening at 7.00PM [returning after midnight] so, in my opinion, there was nothing stopping the owners from attempting repair in my absence; if successful this would have allowed me to shower in the privacy of my room the following morning as opposed to having to walk through a communal/dining area, occupied by other guests , looking dishevelled with a selection of personal hygiene accoutrements in hand... a situation which, I believe, would leave most people feeling rather upset and embarrassed.
Stanleyview Hotel and Guesthouse
Really enjoyed our stay here, close to the town centre.
The staff were very helpful Re: Taxis etc.
Worth a visit and will call again if ever in the area.
The place and people were great, good sized room and very clean.
Food was exceptional for the price. Only slight drawback was that you had to pay for drinks etc instead of being able to put on your room and pay for all at checkout, no big deal really but not the norm. They will be the first I call for a room if ever in the area again.
Great B&B! Would strongly recommend it!
Clean, friendly, lovely breakfast. We will stay again!
excellent comfort and hopitality at an excellent price
would totally recommend this hotel to anybody, will definetly stay here again.
1 night in Wakey
All my party enjoyed our stay, and would come back again whenever we're back in Wakefield.
Not to much for staff to give advice or directions. Clean towels changed daily.will use again . good location for city centre.
Friendly, informative and good food.
There was always someone around to answer questions or provide local advice.
Very reasonably priced accommodation
Clean rooms, good breakfast very good price.
Three of us travelled wanting separate beds so booked two rooms. The two sharing were accommodated in a flat which had a kitchen area, two family rooms and a twin room, but sharing one en-suite shower. We were offered the chance to just use share this accommodation no doubt for a reduced price. A large family group or similar would find it worth while asking about this. Convenient for town centre.
Nice people, good service, basic b&b, just what we needed.
