The Mytton & Mermaid Hotel

Best place I've ever stayed in

Lovely reception staff, great rooms

We had a lovely stay, staff on reception were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us.

The room was clean and tidy with a nice selection of loose leaf teas and coffee, with homemade cake too. The bar area was busy at 5pm (approx) on a Friday evening, the first drinks served were prompt however, on approaching the bar a 2nd time my boyfriend was ignored by 3 female members of staff as they served 6 customers without even looking at him,(I suspect they we all regular guests) They lacked basic bartender training. Even down to pouring the pint of real ale, the pint (Station Bitter) had no head at all due to the way it was poured and tasted poor.

Grand aspect - delicious food

The location and aspect were grand ~ The dinner was amazing (duo of lamb).

The staff was busy and attentive to the restaurant patrons, the live music was great. The room itself was nice - unexpected extras such as loose leaf tea and a robe. However - the hallway carpet was worn/dingy, the cable tv had interrupted reception and the wifi was spotty. Perhaps it was just my room.

Attentive service in a beautiful setting

I have been to the Mytton and Mermaid often for supper.

This time, we needed rooms before setting off on a cycle trip to Wales. The staff in the bar and hotel reception could not have been more helpful and charming. The food was delicious and my room was quirky and comfortable. This place is a gem. It will not appeal to those who want gushing showers, room service at 04:00 and lifts with music. But the people who run the place have hired some really good staff.

Sorry, not that good.

Given a room in the courtyard.

Very noisy and you hear everyone's conversation. People not supposed to be in the courtyard after 10p.m. But they obviously don't enforce it. Not very engaging people, nobody asked me anything or had I enjoyed my stay. Perhaps not bothered. Looks grand but can't hide behind that and I wouldn't stay again.

Small rooms, good service, amazing location

Arrived in the dark and the receptionist was just about to go home, the room was up several flights of narrow stairs with difficult doors, the room iteslf was small and oddly shaped, the shower didn't work at all, the bath took ages to fill, the windows weren't double glazed so the noise from the nearby road was a problem.

The restaurant served very good food, but the serivce was a bit indifferent. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. What made the stay was the view and the location. All in all the hotel need to try harder, especially with the cramped rooms and dated plumbing. Location gorgeous.

The Mytton

Great looking place from outside next to river .Staff were helpful, room was clean sink in bathroom was insecure pulling away from wall, fixtures and fittings were dated,Lighting in room poor, carpets appeared to be stained and dirty. On first two flights of stairs carpet would appear to be of very poor quality (I'm no expert on carpets) perhaps a better colour would have been better.Should also be mentioned that no lift to bedrooms stairs could be a problem for some people

Breakfast very good value and was cooked to order, would i stay again probably not.
