Very warm welcome, with directions given for local garage.
Food in the evening - fish platter, really was superb and very reasonable. Only downside - I would have liked breakfast included in the price. But other than that - perfect.

Plenty of character.
Lovely old pub with rooms. Suggest if you want to eat in the restaurant to book early. Breakfast is the best for a long time.
Great old world hotel
Stayed one night on business and was very impressed.
The welcome was friendly, bedroom comfortable and clean, service was excellent, as was food and beer.
I can only comment on Room 1 which was cold and noisy from the street traffic, despite the secondary glazing which was less than useless.
Although there was a heater in the room the radiator was cold and we had to ask on two occasions for the heating to be put on. The following morning it was off again. The light above the mirror didn't work and there was a draught coming through the wall under the sink. The beds were comfortable and tea & coffee facilities were provided. The romanticised description of 'your own private bathroom with key' was misleading as this was a coupe of doors down the corridor, extremely basic with no heating and, again, the light over the mirror didn't work. So don't forget to take a dressing gown. However, the menu and food was excellent and the dining room comfortable and full of Dickensian memorabilia. I can only assume the other bedrooms are en suite and warmer.
Very good, small gripes, would stay again!
Overall the stay was very nice and would definitely stay again.
The bedroom was very spacious with a large comfortable bed. The bedroom was tidy with facilities that you'd expect (kettle/tea/coffee/TV) and was full of character (four poster bed). It was heated using storage heaters though as I suspect the central heating wasn't working, this did mean that the en-suite was very cold (the one gripe!) The shower was also quite weak.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food at the restaurant was very good, traditional pub food, would recommend the braised lamb. The breakfast was a full English, no complaints.
The pub area was relatively small but felt cosy, felt like an old traditional pub which is what we were after. Ideal for a relaxing weekend away (if the bathroom wasn't so cold!)
Overall, a disappointing experience.
The room was cold due to non-functioning radiator, and the convector heater provided wasn't up to the job. Had to eat in the very boisterous bar because the restaurant was full. Food was very average. Tip: walk down the village to the Ship Inn, where food is much better - and less expensive.
Lovely room in a pub full of character
Massive room, comfy bed, the pub itself is full of character and the food is great too!

Food is very good, atmosphere in pub pleasant, so will go back for dinner.
Room quite small, very tired, desperately needs updating.
Lovely hotel. Great location
Really liked this hotel, the food was lovely and the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Really interesting listed building. Would def go back, wish we had longer to spend in the restaurant and the bar as there was a great atmosphere.
Hotel could do with updating a little, the room was fine but a bathroom down the hall.
the breakfast was just thrown together, everything piled on top of each other and not very hot. Not the best I have had. Location lovely. nice village setting and church right opposite. Nice for walks.
