Sun Hotel And The Little Inn
A secret that should be shared
500 year old building right in the town center
Very old building right in the middle of the town, the cathedral is a minutes walk, also lots of bats and restaurants are minutes away.
Owner was friendly and room was ok. Parking was a pain but that's more a Canterbury issue than the hotel, we saw tons of other people looking lost trying to find parking. Canterbury Really do recto invest in clear and simple parking signage for visitors.
Unfortunately I had a number of issues with this hotel.
Firstly, I actually couldn't get into the hotel in the morning, someone having breakfast had to let me in. The phone was on answer machine and the door bell does not work (or was ignored). The light outside my room had been removed and so left the corridor very dark such that I needed my torch on my phone to unlock/lock the door, even during the day. The room was very very small and the tea/coffee making was on top of the corner wardrobe. The curtain did not extend fully across the window making it very light. The shower head obviously needed de-scaling, so when used water spouted out at different directions, none of which were at me. The toilet flush used a macerater system so really really noisy - too noisy to flush at night. I had booked and paid for breakfast but the owner could not offer a cooked breakfast until after 8.30am - I feel this is just unacceptable. I was offered a continental and so ended up with 3 pieces of white toast, butter, jam, some sliced tomato and chunks of cheese. Pretty appalling really. The owner did not arrive at the hotel in the morning until gone 8am. The voucher for the car park worked fine but a map to identify which car parks you can use and where they are in relation to the hotel would been very useful. On a plus side, I arrived at 9am in the morning, ready to start a course and my room was ready and so was allowed to check in then, this was helpful, particularly as the car was parked 15 minutes walk away. To be honest, at £105 per night, I wasn't impressed. I hope things improve.
Canterbury a best kept secret
Lovely little hotel right in the city.
Balance of hotelier/ client relationship great as there when you need them, but not when you dont
Way over priced still trying to justify my £195!!!
Pictures look good on site but don't be fooled.
Just about to get in bath when another guest walked in to our room as it was double booked and they had a key given to them by the only 1 staff member they had. Hot tub only had 1 button working half the jets, no lights as advertised and the £1 happy shopper shower gel was still watered down. Toilet seat was hanging on by 1 screw just and the long life milk was like jelly so who knows how long it's been there.
Great little boutique hotel tucked away in plain sight in the city centre, the staff were friendly and breakfast was great.
Many thanks for the stay.
Could have done with a fan in the room, that was the only thing that was missed.
Not, not recommended
A late booking as normal "proper" hotels booked up.
Looks good on the website but don't be fooled. No reception, no staff overnight, no hot water, electricity tripped out, toilet unclean, seriously overpriced, no parking fifteen minute walk to out of centre parking, ………. Not recommended. We will not be returning to this hotel. Canterbury a great place.
