Reviews - The Abbey Inn

3Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
30 Buckfast Road, , , Buckfastleigh, TQ11 0EA
Are you looking for fabulous accommodation in the Dartmoor National Park or an unforgetable dinning experience or even great pub food in Buckfastleigh? Then The Abbey Inn can exceed all your expectations, and provide the location and a service that is sure to leave all her guests completely satisfied. Tucked inside the Dartmoor National Park, and nestled beautifully into the banks of the River Dart, The Abbey Inn, an old quarry house, remains completely hidden from view of the road. Yet from its large car park, looking down the landscaped drive towards the Buckfast Bridge, a three story eighteenth century building, proudly overlooking the River Dart. Despite its short distance from the A38 and cities of Plymouth, Torquay, Totnes and Exeter, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were a million miles away. Yet we are ideally located, with the world famous Buckfast Abbey just a 2 minute walk away and in the Dartmoor National Park, the Abbey Inn is idealy situated for all the local attractions, including: •- Miniature Pony Centre •- Pennywell Farm •- Otter Sanctuary •- South Devon Steam Railway •- Dartmoor National Park •- Buckfast Abbey •- Fishing and Kayaking on the River Dart The Abbey Inn on the edge of the Dartmoor National park is therefore ideally situated for holiday makers and tourists, as well as for businessmen working in the surrounding areas. At the heart of the Abbey Inn is her restaurant and traditional bar, no pub TV's or gaming machines, just an open fire, great food, award winning beer, Cask Marque Real Ales, excellent wines and the constant flow of water past the extensive river side terrace. Through the bar into the restaurant a traditional English dining experience awaits, with our chefs offering homemade food, freshly cooked and locally sourced. And for those wanting a relaxing get away the Abbey Inn has eight well appointed en-suite rooms overlooking the River Dart, perfect for a quick break, business trip or extended vac

We had a lovely stay at the Abbey Inn. Location is wonderful, the staff are very courteous and the food (and beer) was very good. We will certainly be returning.

Great stay again
Stayed here many times over the years, lovely location right beside the river Dart and staff are very friendly & helpful. Ok, the place needs a bit of a face lift but it's clean & tidy and well situated for access to many places (Dartmoor, the south Hams, Plymouth, Torbay). A good selection of well kept real ales and a lovely log fire in the cooler months. Plenty of off road parking AND......... A cracking Indian restaurant about 400 yds away. What more do you want?!!!!

Real local pub in great spot
A warm welcome on arrival and during my stay from a young and enthusiastic staff ( I learned that the proprietors were taking a well earned break away). Real pub, roaring fire, amazing riverside location. Interesting menu - although nothing really for anyone watching their weight except unless you like fish.
Excellent value for money so what I say next needs to be read in that context. My room - called Dipper - whilst having an amazing view over the river - was tired and needing refreshing. It felt a bit like a rarely used spare bedroom in a suburban home where odds and ends of furnishing had been used.

A Great Stay
Had a lovely weekend at The Abbey Inn, food was excellent, good vaule for money. The breakfast was also excellent. The room was lovely & cosy, clean and well presented with a lovely view of the river. We walked to nearby Buckfast Abbey and spent a lovely sunny afternoon walking around the grounds & Abbey and had a pot of tea at a very reasonable £1.30. We have already booked to go back in October.
